Chapter 18

Chapter 18 Chaos Damon's POV. I watched her leave until she disappeared from sight. It’s strange, but all I can think about is what happened between us at the event. I’ll be honest with myself, I want more of that, and I’ll get it. I blame Darius for letting me taste it the first time. I pushed open my father’s door and walked in. “You sent for me, sir?” I asked, stepping inside and standing at attention like always. That is how it has been all my life, me listening to him. Since I was a boy, my father made sure I went everywhere with him. He taught me how to hunt, how to fight, and how to be a man. Maybe that is why I have always been his favorite child. Darius was more attached to our mother. She was softhearted, the kind of woman who cried whenever I came home from a battle bruised and bleeding. She would argue with my father for letting me go, but those wounds shaped me. They made me stronger. He came closer and placed a hand on my left shoulder. “I love that you didn’t embarrass me at the opening event,” he said, his voice calm but heavy with pride. “And now, I have a little reward for you.” I kept my face steady. My father always meant what he said. If he promised a reward, he always delivered. “I’ve watched how much Darius lets his emotions control him,” he continued, stepping away from me toward the window. He lifted his chin slightly, eyes fixed on something beyond the glass. “He’s still the teenage boy I once was, the kind who let his heart lead him. But I’ve always taught you both…an alpha, a king lycan, does not waste his power on love. You use your power to dominate. You rule over everything and everyone.” I said nothing, just stood there, watching him, listening closely. Then he turned back to me, a faint smile touching his lips. “But you, Damon, have proved me right. You’ve shown me what it means to be in full control of your heart.” “Thank you, Father,” I said quietly. “Now, before I give you your reward, tell me, what does that mate of yours mean to you?” “Nothing. Absolutely nothing.” He nodded with a smile, the kind that said he did not believe me for a second. He opened a bottle of marital drink and poured some into my glass. “Let us drink to it,” he said. Our glasses clinked softly. I took a sip, then set mine aside. “I am stripping your brother of every right he has to become the Lycan King,” my father said, his tone steady but sharp. “From this moment, Darius has no claim to this seat. He is not fit to be what I have become, not now, not ever.” A slow smile spread across my face. “That makes you my only heir,” he continued, his eyes locking with mine. “But do not let that make you comfortable. If you fail me, I will do the same to you.” I nodded, still smiling faintly. “I understand, Father.” He stepped closer, his voice dropping low, his eyes locked on mine. I kept my chin up, refusing to let even a flicker of fear show. I stared right back at him. “I know you like p***y eating,” he said. Heat rushed to my face, but I didn’t flinch. I didn’t look away. “And I know you may feel something for your mate. Every wolf does. But I want to see what kind of man you are. I want to see how much control you really have. From this moment on, I don’t want to see you anywhere near my beautiful Zima. Whether it's just p***y eating or anything else, you will have nothing to do with her. Clear?” “Yes, Father.” “I never married my mate either, so it should be easy for you, boy,” he said, patting my shoulder before turning back to the window. “She will be your stepmother, and you will respect her,” he added, lifting his glass and taking a slow sip. I scoffed inside. Stepmother? The word felt like poison on my tongue. My father had truly lost it. How could he even think of touching her? “You may leave.” The moment I stepped outside, my heart sank. I let out a deep breath, trying to make sense of what I had just heard. My father had lost his mind entirely. Because when I crave something twice, I always get it. No matter what. *** I walked into the control room to check how everyone was handling their duties. Most were out on the field training. Others were in gamma classes or working through different drills. I clicked through the screens until one caught my eye…Darius, in the field, his hands around her neck. For a moment, I just watched. Then I remembered I had someone waiting in the parking lot. A grin tugged at my lips. I headed downstairs, my steps quick and heavy with purpose. I hit the emergency bell, summoning everyone. “You will come in only when I call for you,” I ordered, then turned back toward the hall to address the others. Darius and his little world, Zima, walked in late. That was fine. I was about to break a wolf without even lifting a finger. “Everyone,” I began, my voice echoing through the hall. “I’ve been called Sophia’s killer, but I know myself. I don’t wake up in the morning just to hurt people. I spoke with Asher, my beta, and we had a deep talk.” I stole a glance at Asher before looking back at the crowd. Zima stood beside Darius, her body leaning toward him, her eyes filled with questions. Darius’s stare burned into me, and I could almost hear his heart pounding from where I stood. “I have a gift for everyone here.” I pressed play. The room went silent as the audio filled the air. Asher’s trembling voice confessing how Darius had threatened him and set everything up. The crowd frozen before cheers erupted. Zima’s face twisted in shock. She yanked her hands away from Darius’s grip and stepped back. “Now, welcome Sophia with me,” I said. The room exploded in cheers as Sophia walked in, alive and radiant. Zima stormed out without a word. Darius just stood there, staring at me like I’d ripped his world apart. I shrugged and walked up to him, close enough to see the rage in his eyes. “You need some water, twin?” I asked, my voice calm, almost mocking.
