As soon as night fell the following day father roused us and told us it was time, we already knew what he was talking about and what we would need to get done. We made our way to the entrance of he cave, each step I took I felt the mounting pressure and the increased frevor there was a phsycic build up and I knew we all felt it. At the mouth of the cave, we paused a moment looking out the vast expanse of sand. My brother's voice shattered the stillness of the night, "which way is home?" He asked,p Horakhty ( he would eventually answer to Horus in pre-ancient Egypt). My father pointed a finger, in the distance I saw the faint lights of fires, they woul have fire pits at different places in the town to illuminate it for a bit. It was then that I noticed my father and mother had dressed specially for this day. Father wore a gold vest over his knee length robe, with matching bracelets and anklets. He had highlighted his eye brows with make up that as reserved for the elite, he really did look regal. Mother on he other hand wore a long flowing gown with a gold neck piece that fanned her shoulders and came down to her groin and buttocks ( where did they get it? Beats me! Never asked). She also had the same make up on my father was wearing but hers was way more elaborate. The rest of us were dressed in regular knee length robes with fabric belts round our waists expect for my sister. She didn't have the belt.
Seket took the lead breaking out in brisk jog, we followed. Suddenly we were enveloped in the flury or furiously flapping wings of bats, next thing we know, we were perched on the highest rampart of the city. Father quickly split us into three groups, one would go after the rulers family and his guards, the other would go after the priest and his entourage, the last group would go after he nobles loyal to the ruler. Seket, Osiris and I were to go after the priest and his largely militant entourage, my sister and Horakhty were to go after the elite supporters of the ruling house, Mother and Father would go after the rulers and their bodyguards. The plan was pretty straight forward, once we had taken them out, we would meet up with them at town center and debrief on our individual missions.
Seket, Osiris and I made our way to the temple, moving in the shadows, becoming shadows. we gathered on the roof top of the building trying to observe our targets and their movement. Osiris noticed that there was unusually light security and wondered telepathically if something was wrong. He noticed everyone of rank was headed to the inner chamber while the few guards available were quite relaxed. "This will be too easy" he said out loud. I said "Seket go round being them while I cut of any means of escape and Osiris will Head them off", I waited for acknowledgement from Seket, none came. I turned to where he was supposed to be, he was gone. Osiris and I stared wide eyed as we turned back to see him plough through six guards without a care who saw. panic erupted and a few rushed towards the inner chamber. "Come one" Osiris yelled as he descended. I rushed down to join him as he made to cut them off. I went straight for the entrance to the chamber and got there just as a guard attempted to pull back the thick veil that partitioned the passage way leading to it. Yanking his arm away I caught a glimpse of another dozen or so guards poised in defensive positions. I sunk my teeth into the guard's neck and ripped his jugular. The taste of blood rich in my mouth, I got heady and swiped at a guard who had come up after him, he stood in shock clutching his dagger as his tunic soaked in his blood. My brother's had caught up with me and in unison we stormed the passage way. I wished we had more cover and then the bats were everywhere. We moved like fog in their cover taking them out in unbelievable time. They never saw us coming. Seket walked casually into the chamber, we were a few steps behind. I stopped in surprise at the sight that greeted me. The holy men, our spiritual leaders who held themselves so pious and above everyone were deep in debauchery. So this is what the do with the females they take in the name of sacrifice. I was filled with rage as I lunged at the one closest to me snapping his neck like a twig, the sound caught the attention of some of the reveler and they hurriedly began feeble attempts at covering themselves and grabbing what ever they could to arm themselves. Seket had a field day tearing limbs and disemboweling a few, not caring if it was female or male, their cries of anguish lost to the night. Osiris was far more empathic trying to herd the girls toward the passage we had just emerged from. Their screams at the sight of the mess we made there made Seket turn. I heard his laughter and he turned to go after our brother and the girls. I finished what was left of the people he abandoned, and began looking for the leader. He wasn't here. He had to be! There's no way his underlings would organize something like this without his sanctioning it or being present. I saw a small passage hidden away in a corner and rushed in.
That's when I saw her. She was truly a gift fit for the gods, her perfect skin, unblemished, long dark hair tussled, her face was everything imagined a goddess would look like. Her beauty was astounding. I stood there in disbelief that such a beauty would be here, instead of somewhere she could be worshiped and adored. Something was off though, her eyes were scared, but her poise was crouched and ready to attack. Thats when I saw the body of the priest to the side and the dagger in her hand. She had killed him. I remember a fleeting feeling of admiration and respect for her, she would rather have killed the priest instead of allowing him have his way with her even though it meant certain death (she would have been killed anyway after the debauchery, ... they all would have been killed), my moment passed, she lunged at me dagger pointed straight for my stomach. I side stepped a little too late, the knife caught me in to the side of my abdomen, cutting skin. I grabbed her arm in anger and flung her against the closest wall, she hit her head and passed out. I thought I had killed her. I focused so I could hear if her heart still worked, it did, it was weak but she was alive. I left her there and stepped out. Osiris and Seket were in a heated argument, Apparently Seket had gone through all the surviving female and Osiris was mad at him. They both seem like they would tear each other apart till they noticed me and asked if we got them all. "Yes, we did " I replied. I had decided to save the girl, she was too beautiful to waste and the fact she already had fought for her life didn't do any harm in my book, when she came to, she'd find her way out. This wouldn't be the last I'd see of her, I made that promise to myself.
We left and headed to the centre of town, my thoughts we full of this mystery girl who had cut me. My attention immediately went back to my cut, it was almost healed. We made a few stops taking what clothes we could find as we moved. We met our parents there. shortly we were joined by Hathor and Horakhty shortly after. We decided to return to the residence of the ruling house and wait for morning.
