CHAPTER SEVENTEEN Reyes left for downtown, and I headed for Colonnades Charter High School. It was east of the center of the Brentwood neighborhood, south of Sunset Boulevard, against the background of the sweeping vistas of the San Gabriel Mountains. It was a massive campus with a large two-story brick structure with open walkways outside the classrooms at the center. There was a football field south of it and baseball complex to the north. A sign directed to me to visitor’s parking. I got out of the car, locked my pistol in the trunk, and walked to the front entrance.
