The adrenaline surged through Serena’s veins as they sped through the streets, her heart pounding in her chest. Every second felt like a battle against time, and Damian was her only anchor. The city’s lights blurred past them, a hazy streak of neon colors, but the shadow of the black SUVs loomed ominously behind them.
"Damian!" Serena gasped, her grip tightening on his waist. The motorcycle revved louder as they maneuvered through the traffic, dodging pedestrians and cars that seemed to appear out of nowhere. The sound of the pursuing vehicles echoed in the distance, but their speed was relentless.
Damian’s focus never wavered. His jaw was clenched, his hands steady as he guided the motorcycle with precision. He could feel Serena's fear, her body tense against his, but he had no time to comfort her. Their lives were on the line, and he had to get them out of this nightmare.
"We need to lose them," Damian muttered to himself, scanning the streets ahead.
Serena’s breath caught in her throat as the black SUVs grew closer. The headlights from behind were blinding, and the sound of tires screeching filled her ears. They were relentless, not giving up for a second.
Suddenly, Damian veered sharply to the right, steering the motorcycle down a narrow alleyway. The buildings on either side were looming, their shadows swallowing them whole. The SUVs followed suit, their engines roaring as they chased after them.
Serena's stomach dropped. "Damian, they're right behind us!" she screamed.
“I know,” Damian said through gritted teeth. He was calculating every move, pushing the motorcycle to its limits. “Stay with me, Serena.”
The alley was tight, barely enough room for the motorcycle to slip through. Damian expertly weaved between the dumpsters and parked cars, the sound of their tires screeching behind them like a predator closing in on its prey.
Ahead, Damian saw a break in the alley—a small opening that could lead them to a larger street. He pushed the throttle harder, making a sharp turn to the left, hoping to outrun the pursuers.
But as they approached the opening, a screech of tires filled the air. One of the black SUVs had cut them off, its headlights blinding Serena as it blocked their only escape route.
"Damian!" Serena shouted, panic creeping into her voice.
Damian’s eyes narrowed. There was no time to waste. He slammed the brakes hard, causing the motorcycle to skid, its back wheel screeching in protest. Serena barely had time to react as they came to a halt just inches away from the SUV’s front bumper.
For a moment, everything was still. The only sound was their heavy breathing, the tense silence hanging between them. Then, the door of the SUV flung open, and a man stepped out. Serena could barely make out his face in the darkness, but the malice in his eyes was clear.
“Get off the bike,” the man commanded, his voice cold and dangerous. "You're not going anywhere."
Damian’s muscles tensed, but he didn’t move. His gaze never left the man, his hand resting on the throttle. "You really think you can stop me?" he said in a low, dangerous tone.
Serena felt the heat of the moment. She had never seen Damian like this—so cold, so calculating. This was the man who had fought for everything, who had survived countless battles in this dangerous world. She could feel the intensity of the situation in every fiber of her being.
But they were outnumbered. Serena knew that.
The man in front of them smirked, his grip tightening on the g*n holstered at his side. "This is your last warning."
Damian’s eyes flicked to the man’s hand, then back to Serena. He could see the fear in her eyes, but he refused to let her see his. He wasn’t going to let them take her. Not now, not ever.
In one swift motion, Damian pulled the g*n hidden beneath his jacket, his movements so fast that the man barely had time to react. The shot rang out, echoing through the alleyway as the man staggered back, clutching his shoulder. He fell to the ground with a grunt, his face contorted in pain.
Serena’s heart stopped for a moment, her breath catching in her throat as she watched the scene unfold before her. Damian didn’t hesitate. He revved the motorcycle and tore through the alley, leaving the injured man behind.
They sped down the street, Damian weaving in and out of traffic, his mind working in overdrive. He needed a way out, a plan. He couldn’t let them corner him again.
"Damian..." Serena’s voice trembled, still shaken by what had just happened. "We can't keep running like this."
"We won’t have to," he said, his voice firm. "Not if we do this right."
But even as he said it, a nagging feeling settled in his gut. They were running out of time. The Callisto family wouldn’t stop until they had Serena back in their control. And if they were willing to go this far, who knew what they would do next?
Serena was everything to him, but in this game, sometimes even love couldn't guarantee survival.
