The days that followed were nothing like Serena had ever imagined. She found herself pulled into a world she never asked for, a world of danger, power, and relentless ambition. She still couldn’t wrap her head around the truth Damian had revealed to her—that she was the daughter of Alessandro Callisto, the notorious mafia boss.
Serena tried to distance herself from Damian after that fateful night. But it seemed impossible.
He was everywhere.
Whether it was at the art gallery, outside her apartment, or even in the park near her school, Damian was always lurking in the background, watching her every move. And with each passing day, the weight of her reality pressed harder on her shoulders.
She couldn’t escape.
One afternoon, Serena found herself walking home from school, her thoughts clouded by the storm of emotions she had been battling with. But as she turned the corner, her breath hitched—there he was.
Damian.
Leaning against the black luxury car parked by the sidewalk, he looked effortlessly composed, his dark suit making him seem like a man who had the world at his feet. His eyes were fixed on her, a smirk playing on his lips.
"Serena," he greeted her softly, his voice smooth as silk.
Serena stopped in her tracks, feeling the intensity of his gaze. She had been doing everything she could to avoid him, to live her life without any more interference. But the more she tried to escape, the tighter his grip became.
“What do you want, Damian?” she asked, trying to sound brave, but her voice faltered.
He pushed himself off the car and took a step closer to her, his presence overwhelming. "I told you, I’m not going to let you run away from this," he said, his tone almost casual, but there was a dangerous edge to his words.
“I’m not running away from anything,” Serena shot back, though her heart was racing. “I just want to know what you want from me.”
Damian leaned in, his face inches from hers, his breath warm against her skin. "I don’t want anything from you, Serena. But I need you to understand that you’re a part of this world now. And no matter how much you fight it, it’s going to drag you in."
Serena could feel the coldness in his words, but there was something else too—an underlying heat that made her pulse quicken. It made her feel things she wasn’t ready to confront.
But just as quickly, Damian stepped back, his gaze never leaving hers. "I didn’t come here to argue with you. I came because you need to understand that I’m the only one who can protect you now."
Serena froze. Protect her? From what? From whom?
"I don’t need your protection," she replied, but it was more out of instinct than belief.
Damian’s smile was cold, but there was something calculating in his eyes. “We’ll see about that.”
Before she could respond, his phone buzzed, and he glanced down at it. His eyes darkened, and he stood straighter.
“I have to go,” he said, his voice tight. “But think about what I said, Serena. This world doesn’t give you a choice.”
Without another word, he turned and walked away, leaving Serena standing there, her mind in turmoil.
Meanwhile...
Back at the Callisto mansion, the situation was growing increasingly tense. Alessandro Callisto, the notorious mafia boss, had been making moves against the De Luca family for years, but now things were reaching a boiling point.
He sat in his office, his gaze cold and calculating as he read through the latest reports. His eyes flickered to the photograph on his desk—Serena, his long-lost daughter.
"She’s out there," Alessandro murmured to himself, his voice laced with a mix of pride and frustration. "And the De Lucas have already found her."
His right-hand man, Marcello, entered the room, his expression grim. "Sir, the De Lucas are getting closer. Damian has his eyes on her. We have to move fast."
Alessandro’s jaw tightened. "I won’t let Damian De Luca use my daughter as some pawn in his game. I will do whatever it takes to get her back. She belongs to me."
Marcello nodded, but there was a hint of uncertainty in his eyes. "But, sir, she’s been living a normal life. She may not even be aware of the danger she’s in. We can’t just force her into this world."
Alessandro stood up, his towering presence filling the room. "She’s already in it, Marcello. The moment I lost her, she became a part of this war. And now that Damian has found her, there’s no going back."
Back to Serena...
Later that evening, Serena sat in her apartment, her thoughts racing. Damian’s words, his presence—they haunted her. What did he mean by ‘protect you’?
Her phone buzzed, interrupting her thoughts. She glanced down to see a message from Lena:
“Hey, are you okay? You look like you’ve seen a ghost today. Want to talk about it?”
Serena sighed, thankful for her friend’s concern. But what could she possibly say? How could she explain the mess she had found herself in? How could she tell Lena that the mafia world she had tried to distance herself from had found her—because she was the daughter of one of the most dangerous men in the world?
She didn’t have answers. She didn’t even have a plan.
But there was one thing she knew for sure—she couldn’t keep running from Damian De Luca.
