Bea’s alarm rang and Beyonce’s ring the alarm started playing.
Bea opened her eyes excitedly.
“First day of senior year.” She said as she sat up and reached across the bedside table to switch off her alarm.
“It’s going to be a good year.” She declared as she got up from her bed and made her way to her En suite bathroom.
She put on her GRWM playlist and SZA started playing.
She took her time brushing, bathing and washing her hair.
Then, she made her way to her walk-in closet and picked out her underwear. Her uniform had already been carefully laid out on her bed.
She walked back to her room and pulled on her uniform.
She then walked to her dressing table and put on light makeup which included; mascara, foundation, blush and a lip combo.
She went back to her walk-in closet and looked in the full-length mirror.
Her reflection made her gasp.
She wore her school’s uniform; a short, navy-blue skirt that fell a couple inches above her knee with a short-sleeved sky-blue shirt complete with a navy-blue blazer that held the school’s logo.
Her hair was packed in a neat bun at the nape of her neck, with two loose pieces framing her face and she had on a pair of black, square glasses which complimented her face.
The girl in the mirror looked very grown-up.
She looked like she had her life together.
She didn’t look like someone who still feared her dad.
Bea looked away from her reflection and glanced at the framed picture of her mum which she kept on a shelf in her closet.
The picture was of Bea’s mum: Elizabeth, when she was in high school.
Elizabeth Summers was smiling at the camera, looking all happy and giddy.
Bea looked away sadly.
I look just like her. She thought.
She walked out of the closet and shut the doors behind her, grabbed her bag from her dressing table and headed for the door.
On her way out, she read her daily affirmations.
I am beautiful.
I am enough.
I am going to achieve my goals.
Today, she added a new one;
I am going to have a great year.
Bea believed in affirmations and manifestations.
She believed that if you spoke good into the universe, the universe would give you good.
Basically, ask and you shall receive.
She walked down the long, spiral staircase and to the dining room, where the housekeeper; Nadia, had set a breakfast of eggs, toast and orange juice on the table for her.
Bea dug in joyfully, then wrote a note of thanks to Nadia.
Then she walked to the car, where Paul; her driver, was waiting for her inside.
“Good morning, Paul.” She greeted as she got into the backseat of the black Range Rover her dad designated as hers.
“Good morning, miss.” Paul replied gruffly and turned on the radio for the drive.
Paul was both her driver and her bodyguard.
He was 6ft tall, wide with a heavyset body and a huge chest and abs.
His face was always set in a frown, no matter the situation.
She’d known him since she was a little girl and she knew that he had a soft spot for her despite his burly exterior.
She sat comfortably and swayed to the music playing, as Paul drove her to school.

RAPHAEL
Raphael fiddled with the buttons of his shirt.
He looked at himself in the mirror.
You can’t f**k up.
Not again.
He did the last button on his shirt, pulled on the blazer and walked downstairs.
Tiffany, his uncle’s girlfriend was waiting for him at the foot of the stairs.
“Ready?” Came his uncle’s booming voice from the couch.
Raphael nodded.
I won’t f**k up.

Bea stood outside the principal’s office waiting.
She’d met up with Kelsey who had assigned a student called Raphael Robinson to her.
“He’s in our year, so it’ll be easier for you to show him around.” Kelsey had said before running off to a meeting.
So, here Bea was, waiting patiently for this Raphael.
She looked at her watch.
8:15.
15 minutes till class starts. She thought.
Suddenly, the door opened and out came a handsome man.
Bea gasped.
He was tall, probably 6’1, with light brown skin and brown hair that was cropped short.
He had on the school’s navy-blue pants, which elongated his legs, a long-sleeved sky-blue shirt and matching navy-blue blazer. He carried himself gracefully.
Bea was still taking him in when he walked past her rather unceremoniously.
He didn’t even spare her a look.
How rude. She thought.
She turned around and walked briskly to catch up with him.
“Hi, welcome, you can call me Bea. I’ll be your Westbrook.” She said when she was beside him.
Fuck. What the hell did I just say? Bea thought.
Raphael took a good look at her and rolled his eyes.
“I’m good, princess.” He said dismissively.
Princess? He must think I’m stupid. Bea thought.
“Let’s start over.” Bea said.
Raphael stopped walking and turned to look at her.
“What?” He asked.
Bea thrust out her hand.
“I’m Beatrice Summers, but you can call me Bea. Welcome to Westbrook. I’m part of the welcoming committee and I’ll be your guide. I can show you around school.” She said smiling.
Raphael looked at her hand and ignored it.
“No need, princess.” He said and kept walking.
Bea followed.
“What?” She asked.
Raphael stopped again and said to her, very sternly
“Don’t worry about it, princess. I’m good. Just show me where the basketball court is and the classes, and I’m good. You don’t need to follow me around like some lost puppy.”
Bea was irritated.
Why does he keep calling me Princess? She thought.
Also, who refuses help on their first day of school?
“Mr. Robinson I’m trying to help you here.” She replied, a hard edge to her voice.
“And I’m saying I don’t need your help. Just point me to the classes and the court.” He said.
Bea stopped walking.
Fine, if that’s what he wants.
Raphael followed suit.
They were at the entrance of the administrative block.
Westbrook Academy was different from other high schools.
From an aerial view of the school, you could see a fountain in the middle of the school, then on the left side of the fountain sat a very long and wide building.
“Those are the classroom blocks.” Bea pointed.
At the right side of the fountain sat a similar building.
“Those are the labs, the cafeteria, the library and the basketball court.” Bea pointed at it.
Directly opposite the fountain is the administrative block.
“The principal, teachers lounge and other offices are here.” Bea said.
Raphael nodded.
Behind the school was the stadium.
“The pride of Westbrook. The football games and track meets happen there.” Said Bea.
“That’s all I need, princess.” Raphael said and started in the direction of the classroom block.
“Goodluck finding your way around without me.” Bea shouted at his retreating figure.
Raphael turned around at flashed her a dazzling smile.
“I don’t need luck princess.” He said and winked.
