I can get a lot accomplished when it's quiet like this. I think, scanning the empty squad room. Early mornings and late evenings are the only time the station isn't in total chaos.
Glancing at the clock, I realize the morning crew is due to show up soon. I better finish up while I still can, I think, willing myself to continue. I'm busy finishing a report when I see Jerry heading towards our cubical.
"Morning, Jerry."
"Morning, Sarge. "You're off to an early start today, " he says, plopping down at his desk. He glances at his watch before he continues.
"This case has been bothering me all night, so I came in early hoping I can figure it out."
"Which one is that?" he takes a quick sip of his morning brew. A caramel latte he picked up on his way in.
