"Back away from the girl now!" Axe's commanding voice echoed through the narrow alley, his stance unwavering as he prepared to face the menacing thugs closing in on me. My heart pounded in my chest, torn between fear for Axe's safety and awe at his courage. "I'm sure he's tough, but there's no way he can take five of them. What is he thinking?" I fretted in my thoughts, my admiration mingled with concern. Nevertheless, Axe remained resolute, his determination akin to that of a valiant knight in shining armor, standing tall in defense of the helpless. As if sensing the intensity of the situation, the driver inside the vehicle reacted swiftly, laying on the horn with a blaring noise that startled all five thugs momentarily. In that precious moment, they flinched back, creating a fleeting opening. "Scarlet! Get in the car!" Axe's urgent command rang in my ears, and without a moment's hesitation, I flung myself into the backseat behind him. The door slammed shut, and before the goons could even comprehend what had happened, the limo roared to life, quickly putting a safe distance between us and the dark alley. "That was a close one, huh? Don't say it's a good idea to wander around dark alleys alone at night," Axe remarked with a mix of relief and concern evident in his voice. As my heart continued to race, I managed to find my voice, expressing my gratitude to him, "Axe, thank you so much for saving me." He glanced at me with a reassuring smile, his eyes reflecting a sense of calm amidst the chaos, "You don't have to thank me. It's what any decent person would've done. I'm just happy we were in the right place at the right time. Otherwise, it could've been a lot worse." What were you doing in that alley anyway?" I asked, curiosity getting the better of me. Axe grinned playfully, his eyes flickering with mischief. "Well, after you left, the number of interesting girls to talk to dropped to exactly zero. I was just making my way home when my driver noticed the commotion in the alley. We pulled over as fast as we could." His casual explanation did little to diminish the fact that he had been my unexpected savior. I couldn't help but feel a mix of surprise and gratitude for his chance presence. As my nerves began to settle somewhat, I couldn't help but be captivated by the opulent interior of the limo. The plush seats, the elegant lighting, and the sheer extravagance left me momentarily awestruck. "You know, not many guys drive around New York in a limo. I'm guessing your job pays pretty well?" I inquired, trying to make sense of this enigmatic man sitting beside me. Axe's response was a soft chuckle, as if he found my observation amusing. "I guess you could say that," he replied, his tone nonchalant, yet there was an air of mystery about him that left me intrigued. "Hell, I'd never be able to afford a limo like this, let alone a private chauffeur to drive it for me," I remarked, still marveling at the luxurious surroundings. "Yeah, well, Clark and I go pretty far back," Axe replied with a hint of nostalgia, implying a deep bond between him and his reliable driver. The man in the front seat, Clark, gave me a small smile through the rearview mirror. "Pleasure to meet you, miss," he said warmly. "Clark, it's nice to meet you too," I responded, genuinely appreciating his friendly demeanor. "Axe is right, you know," Clark chimed in modestly. "I've been driving in New York for quite a while, and I like to think I know every nook and cranny of this city like the back of my hand." "Clarks the best driver in New York," Axe added with a proud smile, acknowledging the value of his friend's expertise. "You flatter me, sir," Clark humbly responded to Axe's compliment. As the limo's plush interior cocooned us, I couldn't help but become more aware of the minor injuries I had sustained during the chaotic encounter in the alley. Axe's concern was evident as his thumb gently caressed the cut on my lip and the scrape across my cheek. "I'm fine, really," I assured him, feeling a rush of comfort and reassurance from his touch. "It would've been much worse if you hadn't been there." "You're not far from my place. I have a first aid kit we can use. At least let me look over and make sure you're not hurt," Axe offered, his concern for my well-being evident in his words. Caught between the thought of him inviting me over and the realization that he was simply being polite and caring, I reassured myself, "No, he's just being polite...and wants to make sure I'm okay. Still, I suppose it would be stupid not to take care of it. Especially if his place is close by." With a nod, I responded, "Sure, that'd be great." "Perfect. It's settled then. Clark?" Axe called out. Clark acknowledged the request and steered the limo towards Axe's house, following the path to take us to his residence. "So I guess we're even then," he said, a sly grin dancing across his lips, eyes sparkling with mischief. "What do you mean?" I asked, my confusion evident in my tone. Axe grinned mischievously, and with a hint of playfulness, he replied, "You saved me from that girl at the bar, right? Well, I just returned the favor. Debt repaid! Consider us even." His response took me by surprise, and I couldn't help but chuckle at the unexpected turn of events. "Wow, you sound awfully pleased with yourself, don't you?" I retorted, teasingly. "Maybe a little bit," Axe responded with a grin, not denying his satisfaction at being the 'knight in shining armor' for the night. In the back of the limo, I settled into the luxurious leather seats, feeling a mix of emotions as we approached Axe's home. As we pulled up to the curb, I couldn't help but be taken aback by the grandeur of the place—it was clear from the outside that Axe's home was big, very big. "Wow, this guy must be richer than I thought," I mused in my thoughts, amazed by the opulence before me. Axe's warm invitation for Clark to head home and his plan to take me up to the penthouse showed the genuine care he had for my well-being. Clark bid us both goodnight, and I exchanged a heartfelt thank you with him before he left. With his hand in mine, Axe led me through the main door and into an elevator. The comfortable silence between us allowed me to catch my breath, though I couldn't shake the throbbing pain in my cheek and the exhaustion from the night's events. "I've never wanted a bed more in my entire life. I'm not sure how much longer I can keep my eyes open," I confessed in my thoughts, feeling the exhaustion taking its toll after the night's events. Finally, the elevator doors opened, and Axe guided me through the large double doors into his penthouse. The moment I stepped inside, I was in awe—my mouth nearly dropped to the floor. It was a private paradise, far more massive and luxurious than anything I could have ever imagined. "Welcome to my home, Scarlet," Axe said with a touch of pride. "It's amazing!" I couldn't help but marvel at the opulence and elegance that surrounded me. He shrugged, a hint of cockiness in his demeanor. "It suits my needs. Though, I'll admit it took a while to get the decor just right," he shared with a playful grin. I couldn't resist smiling at his remark, appreciating the light-hearted banter that seemed to come so effortlessly to him. "Come on, let's get you cleaned up," Axe said, taking my hand in his. In the opulent bathroom that matched the grandeur of everything Axe owned, he gestured me inside with an aura of confidence and allure. His presence filled the room with an intoxicating charm that left me both captivated and uneasy. "Hop up on the counter," he commanded, his voice smooth and seductive. I obliged, feeling a rush of nervous excitement as he approached, holding a cotton swab and ointment in his hands. With an intensity in his smoldering gaze, he gently urged my knees apart and positioned himself between them. My cheeks flushed with a mix of embarrassment and anticipation as his eyes explored the contours of my body. My mind raced with thoughts and emotions, wondering what Axe's true intentions were. Was he merely concerned about my well-being, or was there a deeper desire lingering beneath the surface? I couldn't help but blush even more as his eyes seemed to linger on my lips, sending shivers down my spine. "This may burn," he murmured, breaking my train of thought. "You have a slight cut on your bottom lip." His words only intensified the fluttering in my stomach, as the proximity between us seemed to close with every passing moment. I fought the impulse to pull away, torn between wanting to keep a distance and being drawn to his magnetic presence. In the privacy of my thoughts, I tried to reassure myself, hoping that Axe was merely being attentive and concerned. Perhaps, he was genuinely looking out for my well-being, checking for any other signs of harm. Axe shook his head slightly, as if breaking free from his own mesmerization, and replenished the swab with more ointment. The subtle gesture brought my attention back to the present moment, where his focus remained on my well-being. "Feeling better?" he inquired, concern softening his voice. Struggling to compose myself, I nodded, my heart still racing from the closeness of the encounter. "Yes, much better, I'm fine, really," I replied, my words a delicate mixture of truth and a desire to maintain a sense of control. Axe's concern for my well-being was evident in the way he spoke, and though I tried to resist, his persuasive words broke through my tough exterior. I reluctantly allowed him to continue tending to the cut on my lip, knowing that he was right about the risk of infection. As he dabbed the ointment, a tingling sensation shot through my shoulders, making me wince slightly. Despite the discomfort, I couldn't help but be intrigued by Axe's words, comparing my resilience to that of the boys at his company. His praise, coupled with the piercing intensity of his eyes, ignited a mix of emotions within me. With a sudden surge of confidence, Axe leaned in closer, closing the already narrow gap between us. My heart pounded loudly in my chest, its rhythm mirroring the intensity of the moment. His presence felt overpowering yet strangely comforting, and I found myself unable to look away from his gaze. "Everything okay?" he asked, genuine concern etched on his face as he noticed my reddened cheeks. Caught off guard by his question, I stammered in my response, unable to find the right words to express the whirlwind of feelings within me. "Yeah... I mean, no... I mean, do I? Everything's great," I managed to say, my voice betraying my inner turmoil. The tension in the room seemed to escalate with every passing moment, and as Axe drew closer, I could feel my head swimming with a mix of desire and apprehension. The magnetic pull between us was undeniable, and my heart raced in sync with the intensity of the situation. His words resonated deeply, and I could sense the genuine concern in his voice as he expressed how protective he felt about me. It was a sentiment that left me feeling both vulnerable and comforted, knowing that someone cared enough to stand by my side during challenging times. His proximity made it difficult to think clearly, but I managed to respond, my voice a delicate blend of gratitude and a hint of nervousness. "Yeah, I'm glad you were there too," I whispered, my words carrying a weight of unspoken emotions. As if in response to the charged atmosphere, Axe's hands began to brush along my legs, sending shivers down my spine. A rush of adrenaline coursed through me as I mirrored his actions, my hands exploring his muscular forearms before tentatively wrapping around his shoulders. "god , you really are so beautiful, scarlet." As Axe's words washed over me, my heart pounded in my chest, and my breath hitched at the intensity of his admission. The raw emotion in his voice sent a shiver down my spine, and I found myself drawn even closer to him, our bodies now mere inches apart. His compliment, uttered with such sincerity, made me feel seen and desired in a way I had never experienced before. The way he said my name, "Scarlet," made it sound like a precious secret only he knew, creating an intimate connection between us. As if there was no other choice, Axe closed the remaining distance between us, his lips softly meeting mine in a tender yet passionate kiss.
