I shoved Arthur off me so hard he slammed against the wall with a rattling thud. He grunted, the breath knocking out of him, but he was already straightening up before he even hit the floor.
It all happened in that chaotic space before anyone’s brain could actually process the room.
Gill lunged. Rage twisted his face into something unrecognizable, and a piercing scream ripped from my throat. It got louder when Arthur ducked, and Gill’s fist drove straight into the wall instead of Arthur’s jaw.
Gill staggered back, his knuckles split wide open. Heavy drops of blood began to patter against the hardwood.
“Stop! Stop this right now!” I begged, my voice cracking.
