A loud knocking woke me up.
At first, I thought it was just Arthur’s heartbeat against my cheek. But then the sound came again, louder this time, along with the jiggle of the doorknob.

It was JJ. Panic hit me right away. My eyes snapped open, and the bright afternoon light hurt my eyes.
