by Born in Brighton, and living most of his life in Kingston upon Thames Surrey, Sydney James Bounds (1920-2006) was a prolific writer of science fiction, supernatural, detective and western books, and short stories. He published more than 40 novels, of which the most successful were The Robot Brains (1957, a.k.a. Quest of the Brains) and his Savage western series (2000-2006). Just three days before he died, he learned of, and gave his blessing to, the inauguration of the “Best Newcomer—the Sydney J. Bounds Award” given annually by the British Fantasy Society.
