Ellie’s pov.
It had taken me overall 30 minutes to walk from my house to school despite my quick pace, arriving their at 09:18 meaning I was 18 minutes late. At Ashton Academy, named after one of the late alphas of the pack, the school time hours are between 9:00 and 3pm.
I run through the double doors and entered the hallway filled with lockers. I found my locker and put my bag in there whilst retrieving my books for my first class. Maths.
Heading to my first lesson of the day, I knock on the door and wait for an answer. Mr Carr opens the door with a disapproving look upon his face.
‘’ late are we again Miss Timbers? Why doesn’t that surprise me. 3 times you have been late these fortnight. Clearly you think you are above the other students and think it’s okay to disregard the rules. I will see you in after school detention at 3pm. Don’t be late. Now sit down’’ he scolds. I can hear snickering from the other students in their desks.
I make my way to my usual seat at the front of the room directly beside the window. At I sit down, instantly I feel a cold wetness seeping into my leggings and realise that someone had poured a drink onto my chair. Don’t cry. Don’t cry. Don’t cry. I chant into my head.
I pretend i didn’t notice and open up my notebook and begin taking notes of what Mr Carr says.
Whack!! My hand goes up to my head after I felt a small object hit it. My fingers touch a sticky object. I realise that someone has thrown gum into my hair. Luckily as I wore my hair in a bun today it was easier to get out. It wouldn’t be the first time I had gum in my hair and certainly wouldn’t be the last. I hear girls laughing behind me and at the corner of my eye I can see Courtney, my sister Amy’s best friend and her cheerleader friends laughing upon themselves. Again I sit there and pretend I’m unbothered. The more of a reaction the girls can see the worse it will be. I’ve learned the hard way.
After what seemed like a long time of objects getting constantly thrown at my etc the bell finally rings signalling the next class. I waited for everyone to leave before I left.
As I entered the corridor ready to head to my next class I felt a push from behind. I hit the floor in second and immediately my ribs started throbbing again. My nose had nearly healed on the way to school, however my ribs were still tender.
Students started gathering around me laughing and taking photos. I looked behind and saw Courtney and the cheerleader posse behind me.
‘’Oh well look who it is. I am so sorry I didn’t see you there.’’ She laughed sarcastically. I went to get up but again I was pushed to the floor, this time her heeled boots were pressing onto my lower back making my spine hurt.
‘’ what are you doing? Who gave you permission to get up? Did anyone see me tell her to get up? You deserve to be on the ground it’s where you belong. You are below others. Always are and always will be. Don’t get up until I am out of you’re sight’’ she angrily commanded. Everyone around us began to laugh and call me names. But still I kept my eyes on the ground and didn’t dare argue or say anything.
After not getting a reaction out of me, Courtney lifted her foot of my back and marched down the corridor to her next class and immediately everyone else began to follow suit.
Slowly getting up, my ribs felt like they was on fire, I grabbed my books and hurriedly headed for my next class hoping not to again be in trouble. Luckily for me I made it on time and this was one of the few classes that I didn’t share with Courtney or her friends. I will still treated like an outcast though, with no one willing to sit near/by me or even speak to me. Still it’s one of my favourite classes.
Soon the bell went off once again signalling lunch time. I made my way into the cafeteria and lined up in the cue to get my lunch. Lunch at school was one of the only meals I had a day and I savoured every moment of it. I grabbed my choice of selection: spaghetti bolognaise and an apple and went to find somewhere to sit.
Again no one wanted to sit with me, so it was down to me to try and find a table where no one else was. In luck I found one in the corner of the room and I made my way toward it. Sitting down and not making eye contact with anyone out of fear of provoking anyone, I began to slowly eat my lunch.
Immensed in my food, I let my guard down and didn’t realise people sneaking up on me. Suddenly I felt a hot rush on my head and saw and felt food running from my head, down all over my body and table. I looked up and saw the cheer and football squads including my brothers. Everyone began laughing at me.
‘’ Who said you can eat food and sit at a table? You don’t need to eat. Your a fat slut. You don’t deserve food and definitely don’t deserve to sit at a table like you’re equal to us’’ stayed Courtney.
‘’B-But’’ quickly I realised my mistake.
Whack! Her first collided with my face creating an instantaneous crunching sound. My nose and eye began throbbing immediately.
‘’ who the f**k gave you permission to talk? You wanna talk back to me? Let’s see you try to talk back to me once I’m through with you’’
Courtney’s friends grabbed each of my arms whilst Courtney began to repeatedly strike me in my abdomin and legs. Everyone was sitting round laughing and encouraging her, whilst my brothers watch her with a smile on their faces.
Eventually Courtney decided she was finished and gestured for her friends to throw me onto the floor.
‘’ if you want to leave then you crawl out just like the runt you are’’
Wanting to get out as quick as I could, I began to crawl out of the room listening to laughter and insults following me on the way. As soon as I made it to the doors, I carefully stood up and made my way to the toilets where I drenched paper towels in cold water and held them onto my injuries and began cleaning myself up. A small part of relief hits me at the coolness. I use the toilet and then head to my next class.
The last 2 classes fly by and nothing particularly bad happens other then the usual insults and teasing.
Remembering my 3pm detention I head to Mr Carr’s classroom and knocked on the door. He opened the door and gestured for me to enter.
‘’ we’ll done for arriving on time for once Miss Timbers. You need to get out you’re notebook and write: I will not be late to class 300 times. Hopefully by then it’ll sink in’’ he said and then said down on his chair as the front of the room. I began to write immediately knowing that i needed to get home as soon as possible to start my chores or my punishment will be worse later on.
After 45 minutes, I finally finished and handed my work in. Mr Carr grunted in approval and told me to go home.
Quickly I rushed out of the door and walked home as quick as I could.
