Chapter 013

She had been waiting for the day Ryder would assign her as the company's managing director, she had been working her ass out for that position, what if Ryder gave it to Sheila? "Larisa, you need to tell me now, what position Ryder gave to that girl?" She muttered, her voice cold and fierce. "You mean he hasn't told you?" "Are you telling me or you'll just play with me?" Without waiting for her replies anymore, she started retrieving her phone from her pocket. "Mr CEO made her the managing director of the company.." Larisa finally muttered. Ivy paused. She wasn't saying the right thing was she? Was Larisa teasing her? She went on pressing her phone till she got the message. Her hand shook and her knees wobbled, she staggered, but Larisa was quick to hold her in place. "I'm sorry Viee, you don't deserve any of these things that's going on.." "Why? Why did Ryder do this to me? I have worked so hard for this company, everyone knew it, next, I should be there, but why did Ryder hate me so much? Why does he place his ex above me? Why did he give my position to his ex?!" Her voice shook as she drew in tears. Larisa held her in place. "It's okay Viee, it's not even the end of the world, you're going to be fine. You don't even need that position, it comes with a lot of stress." Larisa tried to console her, but Ivy was not buying it. She needed a promotion. She deserved it, she was not a dog that should be kept in one place for decades, even a dog wouldn't be treated that way. Anger seethed through her bones. Ryder had lied to her. Just between last night and this morning, he had done something else to insert back that doubt and uncertainties into their marriage again. Tears were streaming down her face as she fell into her seat. Ryder had thrown her the biggest betrayal of her life. How could he do this? And here she was, so happy she got her husband back. A few minutes later, everyone received an email for a stakeholder and employee meeting. Ivy's eyes narrowed, she knew exactly what this meant. Sheila was about to officially take the position she had been working so hard for. Her face twisted in anger. Even though she tried to act strong and hide it, it could be clearly seen that she was heartbroken. "Do you have to attend?" Larisa asked, feeling deeply for Ivy. "Let's go.." Ivy picked up a file and walked out of her office. She needed to see clearly the woman who had taken what was rightfully hers. She needed to see how she fit into a position that was clearly meant for her. Larisa walked along with her. When they got to the hall, Sheila sat with her chin held high with a fierce look on her face, right beside Ryder. Ivy's fingers balled into a tight fist. She was losing it inside, tears were threatening to drown her face, but she had to hold on tightly, she refused to show any sign of vulnerability. Swallowing her lumps, she walked towards a seat. Her eyes never leaving Ryder as he spoke. She watched his lips going up and down as he announced Sheila as the new managing director of designs. Ivy clenched her teeth tightly. Ryder couldn't even hold eye contact with her, his eyes scanned everyone in the hall but avoiding Ivy's. And the way he looked at Sheila everytime, she knew there was no coming back. Ivy wondered what she was doing so wrong in her marriage. What was she supposed to do that she never did? How was she not enough for Ryder? That as soon as his ex showed up, he was quick to shove her aside as if she never mattered? "Sheila, give your speech.." Ryder spoke, jolting Ivy from her reverie. The softness in his tone everytime he addressed Sheila didn't escape her notice.
