That Night 2

After that heated moment, I got off the bed and headed straight for the shower, not sparing a glance at the person still lying there. I stood under the warm water and tried to make sense of what had just happened. That’s when it hit me , the person I had been with wasn’t Ashley. I didn’t see her face clearly earlier, but now I was certain. It wasn’t her. I got out of the shower as fast as I could. When I walked back into the room, the bed was empty , except for Ashton and Avalon, sitting there like nothing had happened. “What did you guys put in my drink?” I demanded, grabbing clothes from the closet and dressing quickly. “Something to help you calm your nerves,” Avalon said with a smug tone and that only made my anger flare. “You guys actually let this happen,” I yelled, voice shaking with rage. “You drugged me, messed with my hormones, and made me assault someone !” I was more than angry , I was furious and confused. Just then, Ashley walked in, her eyes red with tears. “Kyle… it’s not true. What you saw it wasn’t real,” she sobbed, but her words barely registered. I was too overwhelmed by everything unraveling around me. “Kyle, she’s right,” Avalon jumped in. “It wasn’t her fault. Sophia did this.” I stared at her, disbelief turning to frustration. “What are you talking about?” I asked, my voice tight. “Ashton and I heard the whole thing,” Avalon continued. “Sophia admitted she drugged Ashley and set up the whole scene you found.” Ashton nodded, looking serious. “We heard them argue. Sophia said she wanted to hurt you through Ashley.” Ashley looked at me with pleading eyes. I wanted to believe her. I * knew deep down they were telling the truth. Even Avalon who always hated Ashley was supporting it. But before I could say anything, Sophia burst into the room. “You didn’t cheat on Kyle,” she said with a cruel smirk. “But Kyle cheated on you.” Everything changed in an instant. Ashley looked at me with hope, waiting for an explanation I couldn’t give. I couldn’t lie to her not now, not ever. She didn’t wait for me to speak. She turned and ran out of the room. I followed her outside and watched as she got into her car and sped off, tears and anger mixing in her eyes. I ran after her. She was driving too fast and then her car collided with another vehicle. It flipped and came to a stop. My heart stopped. I rushed over, pried open the door, and helped her out. She was bleeding, weak, but conscious. I scooped her into my arms and ran toward the emergency vehicles I’d already called. At the hospital, doctors took her inside for treatment. I was told to let her rest. When I returned to the waiting room, I found a note on her bed and the words inside hit me harder than anything before. “I don’t love you, Kyle and I never did. I just wanted your money and to watch your family crumble. Your mom had my parents killed, and I wanted revenge. You’re a good person, and I’m tired of playing games, which is why I’m leaving. I love someone else. He’s great. I hate Sophia ,that’s the truth and I hate your mom. But I won’t hurt your family any more than I already have. I don’t want to hurt you, Kyle, so I’m leaving before you begin planning our future. You deserve someone you truly love. Asha” --- Her words were like a punch to the gut, cruel and final. I wasn’t heartbroken not exactly. I was angry. Angry that I had doubted her. Angry that I was manipulated. And mostly… angry at myself. Because if I hadn’t let things spiral, none of this would have happened. But that night changed everything. And I couldn’t hide from it anymore.
