There was a lull for some time. The college was functioning normally, the principal was also feeling a bit relieved of recurring problems and relaxed.
But again the college was shaken by another murder. It happened after about 18 or 20 days of the last incident. Two girl students were sitting in the flower garden during their leisure hour, one of them went to the canteen to purchase two ice creams, on returning she was stunned to find her friend lying on the ground dead.
She shouted and there was a crowd around the spot .Every body gathered to see what had actually happened. It was the second murder in the college.
It was the severest jolt to the principal, she found herself totally unable to do anything to stop this murder. Even she was not getting any hint as to what was wrong with the college.
The police came and found that the girl was killed by stragulation similarly. Again it was found that her figure prints were not matching with any one in the college. In this case also their investigation could not proceed and it was kept pending.
Next day a large number of parents came to the college .They threatened to stop sending their Wards to the college. They demanded an
immediate meeting with the Principal and her assurance of total safety for all the students.
The management led by the principal was already unable to identify who was or who were behind that cruelest crime. Even they found the police totally helpless.
Intense tension and worries aggravated the health condition of the principal. Doctor advised her to go on leave for a couple of days and take complete rest as her B.P shot up significantly.
The News Papers targeted the college in the severest language and held the principal accountable for inefficiency. The reports in the News Papers threatened the reputation of the college which became the main concern of the management.
The principal joined after 3 days of rest. She called a parents' meeting urgently.
All the parents attended the meeting, but they were extremely angry, and were not interested to listen to her at all. They came with a single demand to switch over to the on line teaching and suspend the class room teaching forthwith.
They categorically said that they did not feel safe to send their children to the college. They charged that the college had become a killing field.
They said in one voice that they did not consider the college fit for class room teaching after the successive killing of two students in broad day light. Naturally the charge hurt every body in the management. They boycotted the principal totally.
Considering the situation very volcanic the Director came on the stage and appealed to the parents with folded hands and very fervently to listen to the principal and at last the parents relented.
The Principal said," I am really heart broken at the killing of my two daughtets I stand with the families and pray" may their souls rest in peace" Our college has provided full security to the students all these years. There has been no case of even harassment to the students.
We are really perplexed to see who is or are killing our students in broad day light. Even police are also confused totally. We have requested police to cooperate with us and they have agreed to send two experienced detectives ( one man and one woman) to our college from tomorrow. They will keep watch on every movement of the students. Sir, please give us some time, we will definitely be able to find out the culprit soon.
I also let you know very clearly, if any such incident takes place here again, I will quit my job immediately. I have already sent my resignation letter to him. Please cooperate with us for a little more time."
The parents remained silent and left the college accepting the assurance
Of the principal.
Next day all the students came to the college. This made the management very happy. At about 11am two police detectives arrived at the college and reported to the principal. She thanked them but also requested them to save them from this miserable situation. The woman detective was deputed only for the girl students..
The detectives made an announcement that the students should not move alone in the premises. They said categorically" we don't want to see any single student any where" and asked the students to follow the instruction very seriously.
They posted one security staff in the urinals and one in the lab. They decided not to post any one in the library and canteen because they remain crowded almost all the time. Both started moving in the college constantly and watching each and every student.
The store incharge madam was very close to the principal. Once she went to the principal's chamber just to meet her. She asked her " how." " are you?" She replied ," Madam I am only 32 years old but for the last 20 days, I am suffering from acute sleep disorder. I wake up very frequently. I cannot sleep for more than 2 hours at a stretch. My husband says that I must be thinking about the college incidents seriously
The principal replied, " Don't worry every thing will be alright soon. What is happening is definitely unfortunate but we have to face it with courage, we cannot escape from it." She advised her to take care of her health.
Nothing untoward happened for a long time. The college engaged a lot of staff and security personnel to keep watch on the girl students because
they are generally caught vulnerable. No student was allowed to leave the class and move out unnecessarily.
Once a ruffian type young man came to the security and he wanted to get into the college and meet the store assistant Mike. The security chief did not allow him to come in. He suggested that he should meet him outside, but he insisted that he wanted to make a complain to the store incharge against him.
At last the principal was contacted and she allowed him to come in. He directly met the store incharge madam and wanted her to call Mike. The incharge asked him to wait for sometime, as Mike was busy in some work.
Actually Madam forgot about the young man who was made to wait for Mike in a room behind the store office, but Mike did not come to meet him and he kept waiting till 3pm.
The man lost his temper and directly went and met the principal, and wanted her to call Mike. The principal asked who he was and why did he want to meet Mike?
He replied that he had been sent by Mike's house owner, as he did not pay his rent for the last two months and he also was not coming to his room to stay. He said," I have come to talk to him and settle the matter, the room cannot be kept unpaid for months." He also said," we called him several times, but there was no response from him."
The principal called for Mike, but no body could find him any where in the college. The principal said to the young man Mike might have left the college as he was not available in the college.
She said to him," please do not wait for him unnecessarily, we will inform him to contact you tomorrow. She also gave him a piece of advice that his rental dues is his personal problem. The college has nothing to do with that, somehow you should deal with him in person, you have various options, you need not come to the college."
Finally she said," look gentle man, if he does not pay your rent you are at liberty to throw him out, do you need any permission for that?" She actually did not want this type of person to enter the college, hence, she made the things very clear to him.
Next day Mike came to the college the principal called him and she informed him that his house owner had sent some one for him yesterday. " It seemed you did not pay your rents for two months, you deal with him directly, you should tell him that he should not come to the college for such things. It is your personal matter." Then she asked," where were you in the afternoon yesterday, we could not find you anywhere?"
He said," Madam, I left the college early as I was not feeling OK.( the principal in a hurry committed two vital mistakes. She did not ask him whether he had informed anyone before leaving the college, and she too, did not check whether he had signed the security register at the gate or not , Which he did not.....)
