A HAUNTED COLLEGE

It is a degree college situated at the heart of the city. Among 6 colleges that are situated in the city, this is regarded as one of the best. There are about 600 students both men and women studying there.

The management has also taken a step to set up a junior college. The construction of the building is already over. It may take another 6/7 months to be completely ready. Hence, they have a programme to lunch the session from the next year.

The college is a double storey building with a big single room on the roof which is used as a*****e c*m waste room, where besides new materials and stationeries which are procured for the college, they also dump all waste materials, books, papers.etc.

However, the management has a plan to construct another store room on the roof and then devide the store into two segments. The room remains locked always and it is opened only when it is necessary.

The college has a big flower garden on the right side of the college. One can see hundred of flowers of different hues blooming there all the time. The girls especially are seen chasing colour full butter flies there in their free time. The students spend their time in the garden sitting and chit-chatting during their leisure time.

Apart from spacious class rooms,the college also has the facilities such as a big library , a science laboratory, a canteen and a rest room for the students. Just recently the management has also built a big conference hall which is used for seminars and for students teachers meetings etc. It must be mentioned that the science lab.is fully equipped with laboratory instruments which are generally used for students' experiments.

The college has a very strict security department led by a chief security officer who is an ex- police officer. Their office is located at the gate. The chief operates with the help of 6 assistant security guards.

There are also fitted two video cameras one at the right and the other at the left side of the entrance. They monitor the movements of the students, staff and visitors. The security staff also maintain a registered book where the signatures of the visitors are collected to record their entry and exit.

It is a reputed college ,therefore, the students from far off places come to study here. However, the college has no hostel facility but they maintain an elaborate system of transportation with 5/6 buses travelling on all the routes.

The college has a woman principal about 48 years old who is an able administrator. By dint of excellent teaching method, qualified teaching professionals coupled with an able administrator, the college has acquired a special niche in the academical field.

The police station is only at a stone throwing distance from the college.Therefore, though It is a co-educational college yet the entrance of the college remains free from strees heros who generally crowd to woo or tease the girl students.

During the summer vacation the college remains closed for about one and half months. On the eve of the vacation, the store in charge Madam called the store assistant Mike, a young man of 30 years , to come to the roof with her. They finally reached the store room on the roof. She opened and both entered the room.

The room was very untidy, dusty and every thing was kept in a disorderly manner. The room was segregated in two parts. One part they use for stocking new store materials and the other part is used for dumping the broken, obsolete materials, the corrected exam papers, damaged library books etc

She asked the young assistant to keep everything in order and clear the room. She also told him to shift the new books to the library.

The young Mike is very obedient and hard working. Therefore, without a word he started working and the madam came out of the room and came to her department on the first floor.

Every body was busy completing their work on time before the college closes for the vacation holiday. it was about 2.30pm then and the college would remain open upto 3.30pm. The students have almost left the college and a few who are still available are preparing to leave.

The store in charge madam who was also sitting in desk working, saw that Mike , the store assistant, was returning from the library and walking away.

She looked at her watch and found that it was already 3.30pm. She hurriedly went up to the roof, locked the store room, came down, closed and locked the door that opens to the roof

. Every body left the college exactly at 3.30pm including the Principal. While leaving the college in her car, she asked the security chief to remain vigilant and allow nobody to come in and strictly instructed them to water the flower plants.

After 10/12 days of the closure of the college, once it was found that the lights of certain class rooms in the first floor were on and the fans were moving in full speed.

The security guards were surprised to observe that. They could not understand how it was possible when the class rooms were closed and the main switch was off. They hurriedly opened the rooms and switched off the lights and the fans. They however kept it secret and preferred not to inform the management.

Again after 11/12 days of the incident, one guard was on a regular inspection of the class room. He stopped in front of the science laboratory and found that all most all the instruments in the lab.`such as distill water plant, hot plate, stirrer, hot air oven etc were on. He could easily see the red Light was on in them and the red light of the digital indicator of the oven Indicating that the instruments were on. He could see clearly through the glass door and he was totally stunned at this sight.

He ran to his chief and explained everything. The chief came hurriedly with other guards, and every body was bewildered to see the mystery. It seemed as if the students were carrying on the experiments in the lab.

They started thinking how was it possible. The main switch was off. No body could come to any conclusion. The chief informed the lab. Incharge.

He became speechless by coming to know of the incident. He also got

scared thinking,was there any mistake on his part?

However, without wasting any time, he came to the college immediately. In fact, he took only 20 mts to cover a distance of 8 kms indicating clearly his worrieness and tension.

After reaching, he stood before the lab totally stunned and was unable to think how was it possible, he clearly recollected that he himself switched off the main switch.

He also called the principal and informed her. She was also totally astonished to get such information. She instructed the lab. Incharge to take steps to switch off the instruments and check and recheck before leaving the college. She also instructed him to do every thing in the presence of the security chief.
