They arrived back from Brazil in the late afternoon. Although there was no time to rest, they resumed work immediately after they landed at the airport.
"Don't forget to organize Amy's party," Logan said in the car
"Yes, Boss"
"And congratulations on being an employee of the Ford enterprise."
Chloe stopped writing on her tablet and looked at Logan.
His words perplexed her, but Chloe still smiled a little. She tilted her head down to hide her smile, but Logan still noticed from the window screen.
The car stopped at the office, and they both walked the up floor.
Chloe was in a cheerful mood from the conversation she had early with Logan. She swayed her hips happily with her feet dancing to her workspace.
She was finally getting into Logan's shell, and soon she would leave this place.
Chloe checked her email the instant she got to her desk.
She sees a notification of her salary income. It has been a long time since she had been paid for a work rather than being gifted.
Chloe felt a sense of pride. The amount initially placed was significantly big, but Chloe noticed some large deductions in her salary.
She pointed out the statement and trudged to Logan's office. His legs were crossed, and he held a mischievous look as he had been waiting for her.
Chloe placed the paper on his table.
"I noticed I received a deduction from my salary. May I know why?"
"The suit"
"What suit?"
"Well, the suit you threw into the trash bin" Chloe paused.
"You said you had no need of the suit."
"I did say that. I expected you to return the suit back."
Chloe roughly took the paper away from the table. She was wrong to think that Logan could ever open his shell for anyone.
Logan smiled. He loved the little hidden emotions his assistant tried to hide from him. When she was pissed, she would tap her left foot, 2 taps, and then in a repeated circle.
When she was irritated, her fingers dug into her palm, and if she found you annoying, she simply rolled her eyes when no one was watching. For Logan, his favorite expression was when she was confused. She would bite her lips slowly. It became his favorite thing to stare at.
He would sometimes act like he was going for coffee just so he could see her bite her pen or lips.
Chloe had rented a whole local bar for Amy's party. She had chosen the place closest to work. Chloe waited outside the bar for the workers who were unfamiliar with the area.
Chloe politely smiled at any staff that saw her and entered the bar.
She froze when she heard the sound of a gunshot. Her instinct was pulled back to the past.
"Chloe" She felt a tap on her arm, and she twisted to see Logan concerned. Chloe blinked twice. She looked up to see fireworks, and
her heart began to beat when she realized it was only the sound of shooting fireworks.
Another thing she noticed was Logan had called her name. Chloe never thought her name could sound so beautiful until he had called it.
"Are you ok?" She responded with a polite smile
"Of course"
Chloe checked her phone to see if Amy was close by, and she marched with her heels into the bar.
Amy received a random text from Chloe telling her to come to a particular bar.
It baffled Amy when she heard no music coming out of the bar. Instead, she opened the door to receive a loud shout and a banner that quoted 'Congratulation on your engagement.'
Amy's heart clenched. It had not been a 'goodbye' banner. She hugged Chloe as soon as she saw her.
"Thank you," Amy whispered to Chloe's ears.
"You're welcome."
Soon after, Amy became the life of the party. Chloe sat at the bar and watched the other co-workers dance like their life depended on it. Then, Logan dropped a shot in front of Chloe.
"For the nerves" She observed the shot. Chloe took it in one gulp.
She moaned when the burning sensation hit her throat. Logan's gaze never left her. A stumbling Amy pushed Logan aside.
Amy hiccupped and smiled at Logan.
"Thank you, boss."
"No problem, see you on Monday."
Logan said before excusing his staff to have fun. Amy sat beside Chloe. Her back rested on the table as Amy sat facing the dance floor.
Chloe could see Amy wiggling her feet. Her cheeks were full and red
"Thank you, Chloe; when I saw the congratulation banner, my heart skipped"
Chloe signaled the bartender for more drinks while she listened to Amy pour out her heart
"That they were not telling me goodbye, I know you did it. I love the people. I love my boss."
Amy started to sob, and Chloe rubbed her shoulders.
"You know I used to have a crush on Logan," Amy hiccupped, but that did not stop her from talking.
"The entire company knew, and he didn't fire me or mistreat me."
"I know you might see him as the worst boss, but Logan is really sweet if you let him in. Not every boss would plan a surprise party for an assistant."
Chloe thought Amy was really the spokesperson for Logan Ford. Even though she wanted to correct Amy that Logan had been the mean one in their relationship, Chloe simply closed her mouth.
"Time to go home; call your man." Amy giggled
"I think we are going to be best friends, CHLOE!!"
Chloe supported Amy off the seat and lent her phone to her.
Chloe sighed deeply when she had placed Amy in a cab with her fiancée in the car.
She looked around the streets and spotted Logan next to the streetlight.
Chloe was a bit puzzled.
"What are you still doing here?"
"I couldn't leave. What was that early on?"
Chloe hesitated.
"What do you mean?"
"Before the party" He strode closer to her.
"I said it was nothing," Chloe said in an attempt to leave, but Logan gripped her hand. His grip turned to a slow caress.
"It ok not to tell me what is going on? But don't ever fake a smile to hide it or lie about it."
"I won't."
Chloe removes her hands away from his touch and halts a cab. Along the drive back home, she lingered where he touched her. The sensation around her body was something Chloe wanted to hide.
Logan threw his suit on the couch; he wondered what to do with the burning ache and desire he had for Miss Martini. The fear on her face earlier today was the first time he had seen that expression.
Helplessness.
There were many faces to Miss Chloe Martini, and he intends to find them out.
