Chapter Thirteen

994 Words
Chloe woke up to the sound of a knock. It was funny how deeply she slept in an unfamiliar place. She put on her robe, took her glasses from the table, and opened the door. Chloe was surprised to see Logan in a T-shirt and shorts, with sun eyeglasses on his face. “Come, let go for a tour.” “Ok,” He admired her scattered hair because it made him think of how she would look if she were on his bed. He noticed his thought were tracing again in the wrong direction. “I will be waiting at the poolside.” Leaving her alone in her room. Chloe was in a dilemma as the only clothes she packed were professional dresses and only one dinner gown. So she called a concierge to help her get an outfit. A few minutes later, he came with a splash paint bikini, a black chiffon long dress, and a hat. Logan rested on the lounge pool chair under the parasol. He didn’t see when Chloe arrived, only when she sat on the empty chair beside him. He assessed her. f**k, she was sexy, he thought, beneath all those clothes she wore to his office. Chloe took the same relaxing position Logan had. “Why are we here?” She asked. “The best way to know how good services are is to be the guest itself,” he replied “So, this is an inspection?” “Exactly. Personally, I think the pool is the best part of this resort.” “In a hotel that you own, the pool? Is the best part?” Chloe raised herself a little. He responded with a nod. She relaxed back into her chair; Chloe was tired of questioning her boss. In her life, she had met only two unique men, Kaden and him. “Just for one day! One day, Nick!!” a woman shouted. “Can we not do this here, Caroline?” the man responded to her. “I drop everything for you. I have done everything for this family!!” Chloe sat upright when she heard a couple fighting while Logan continued his phone call, totally unbothered by the situation. They were at the pool walkway. The woman, Caroline, held her little baby, and the other child, who Chloe assumed to be 3years old, was crawling to chase a butterfly. “It was just a text!” Nick said. Chloe dashed out of her seat when she noticed the butterfly landed at the pool’s edge, and the little child leaned in to catch it while his parents were arguing. Logan’s gaze moved to Chloe, wondering why she jumped up from her chair. Chloe tripped as soon as she pulled the little child, who was close to falling away from the pool. She watched herself splashing into the pool. Was this how she was going to die? Chloe struggled for breath. Logan fell his phone down while he sprinted the instant he saw Chloe struggling in the water. The couple stopped arguing and froze as Logan brought Chloe out of the water. He pumped her chest hard, and she coughed out water. Logan turned Chloe to her side, rubbing her shoulder. The workers rushed to the scene of the incident. “Why are there no lifeguards?!!” “I’m so sorry,” Caroline whimpered, holding the little boy to her legs. “If you weren’t too busy with your f****d husband, then maybe you would know your kid was about to drown.” “Don’t talk to my wife like that!!” Nick defended his wife. “Then f*****g clean your ass up” “ Chloe shivered in his arms. He watched her n****e harden from the flimsy material that covered her. Logan took the towel from the employee and concealed her. He assisted her up and whispered to the employee, “Get the manager.” Logan took Chloe up to her room and tucked her into her bed. “I will be back for a bit. Order anything you want. It’s on me,” he spoke softly to her. Chloe nodded. Logan wanted to be mesmerized by her eyes. It was the first time he had seen her without her glasses, and he never wanted to see her with them again. Logan sat in the conference hall with the manager and some of the higher employees. “So, can someone explain to me why my assistant also died?” They all remained silent. Logan stood up “I want your entire resignation letters sent to my email by tomorrow.” “Geoffrey,” Logan called the man who stood at the door, waiting for him. “Employ better workers this time. Also, get me all types of medicated glasses.” Logan didn’t know what defect she had. He thought it to be better to ask her, but he wanted her to rest. He had shifted his meeting to a later time. Chloe took a bite of grape into her mouth. Chloe knew immediately she heard the knock. It was Logan. Her glasses were lost in the pool water. She opened the door, and he was in a suit this time. Chloe bit her lips when she scented his cologne. It was a cologne she had never perceived on any man before. His cuffs were made of diamonds, and his Audemars Piguet royal oak frosted quartz watch fit perfectly in his hands. #9. Never show how amazed you are about their money: If money was your addiction, then being around them makes you show those toxic traits that you have; well, hide them because these people can spot a gold digger from a mile away. “I am proud of what you did today, saving that boy’s life.” She nodded. “We have a dinner meeting by 9pm. I will be expecting you.” Those were the last things he said before leaving her.
