Sienna POV
I felt the highest kind of discomfort sitting at the round table with him and my stepfather. I tried everything possible to avoid eye contact with him, but my willpower nearly failed me.
"So, Sienna, have you met your stepbrother?"
I slowly raised my head, abandoning my meal as I smiled faintly at my stepfather.
"Yes, Alpha."
I didn't hesitate before returning to my food. My mind felt so fragile—I immediately dropped my gaze back to my plate.
He didn't say another word, just continued eating.
The conversation around the table dragged on for nearly thirty minutes before he stood up. His face was drawn, ardent, as if he was angry. But I didn't care. I had avoided every possible contact with him in every way I could.
He stood up, then slammed his hand on the table. Everyone's gaze snapped to him.
"Sienna, meet me outside."
My mind collapsed. I never expected him to say something like that, not in a place like this. It was completely unexpected. I looked left, right, to my mom, to my stepfather. They both looked confused, just as confused as I felt.
I slowly stood up from my seat. My whole body trembled in that moment. I didn't want to act weak, but I felt scared almost immediately. My chest beat faster as I walked toward him, and we both headed outside. His stride was much faster than mine, so it was difficult to keep pace with him.
As soon as we got outside, he gripped me tight on my arms and hissed, "No one must ever know anything that happened between us."
I felt utterly confused because it wasn't even like this during our phone call. That conversation had been way more quiet than this, and now he was giving me this weird mafia attitude. I felt so fragile and weak beneath his grip.
"Can you leave me alone? You're holding me so tight it's hurting me."
He laughed out loud, as if I was making some kind of joke. He didn't feel any remorse about what he was doing to me.
I met his gaze head-on, not caring what might happen. He looked more fierce and stronger than me, but deep within, I knew I was stronger than him. My emotions were more powerful and resilient than any man's. I looked directly into his eyes and said, "Don't push me, or you'll see a side of me you'll hate."
His chuckle ended almost immediately. It felt as if my words had pierced straight through him.
He released me and backed away, giving me the space to return inside. I stayed frozen in that spot for a moment, my mind clouded. What came over me? What was I actually doing? Everything now felt disorganized and completely different from what I had imagined. I'd had negative thoughts, but after yesterday's call, I'd hoped things would be more mature between us. But he'd just proven me wrong.
I walked back to the table, his harsh words still ringing in my ears. My stepfather and mother smiled at me to continue eating, and I forced a smile back. I sat down and pushed the meal down my throat even though it felt like swallowing raw-edged stones. My mind was so heavy with everything that was happening.
For the next few minutes, conversation flowed around the table—everyone talking about each other, trying to get to know one another. Although the chatter distracted me somewhat, it didn't work as well as it should have. I still kept replaying his words, those harsh words that felt like a dagger through my chest.
"So..." My stepfather, the Alpha, lifted his gaze toward me. My heart skipped a beat. "Sienna, how has school been? How have things been going for you?"
It felt strange that he was asking about my whereabouts and everything today, but I couldn't just ignore his questions even though part of me wanted to. My mother gave me a subtle kick under the table while keeping a smile on her face. I answered him almost immediately with exactly what he wanted to hear.
"Good."
He smiled back at me and turned his attention back to his son as they both chatted. I felt so irritated sitting there, but there was nothing I could do anymore.
Then pain shot through me. Food seemed to choke my throat. A very sharp churn twisted in my stomach. I immediately bolted from the table without giving them any notice. I ran to the bathroom and vomited.
It was really strange. I hadn't been sick in years. So why today?
I cleaned up my face, rinsed my mouth, and came out. My mother was standing right in front of the door.
"Sienna, what was that for?" my mother asked with a stern voice.
I used my palm to wipe my face. I took a deep breath and replied, "Mother, I don't know. I may be sick or just reacting to the meal."
She gave me a very sharp glance that screamed hatred, but I didn't care. She only cared about her new man and her position as Luna of the pack.
"Go back in there and apologize to the Alpha and his son."
Her tone was strange and commanding, but I didn't care. I looked at her from head to toe and spat the words out like pure venom. "No, Mother, I won't. It wasn't my fault. Maybe I just reacted to the food."
I immediately walked past her, not caring about anything. I returned to the table. The Alpha and his son glanced at me, and I could see worry written across the Alpha's face. But I didn't care. I just sat there, worked through my last portion of food, and then excused myself while my mother, the Alpha, and my stepbrother continued chatting.
I felt genuine worry even though I tried to keep a smile on my face. In this world, werewolf pregnancies happened fast—within a day.
When two wolves met and had an intimate encounter under a green moon or a half moon, it could result in a child. And pregnancy within wolves started from the very first day after the act. So I was scared.
Was this a symptom, or was I just sick and irritated by what I'd eaten?
