Chapter 6

Rhia's POV Rhys’s smirk deepened. “You heard me.” He glanced at me briefly before returning his gaze back to the road. “I could make Miles notice you. You want his attention so bad, don’t you?” My throat went dry, my heart went wild. “Don’t…don’t play with me, Rhys.” “I’m not playing,” he said lightly. “You know, I could tell Miles everything. The whole family, even. I’m pretty sure they’d believe me.” My eyes widened in horror. “N-No, you wouldn’t. Why would….” “Oh, but I could,” he said, clearly enjoying himself. “If the scanty red marks I left on your body aren’t convincing enough, the footage I extracted sure would be.” My entire body froze. Heart palpitating so hard I thought I was going to die of strangulation. “F-Footage?” I gasped. “That… You’re messing with me right?” My voice was breathy and whispery, hands clenched tight on my laps. He looked so damn pleased with himself. “Fortunately, I’m not.” He said with a slow smirk. “I didn’t get why you could be so careless. Imagine what would have happened if they had found out the mysterious woman that shook the whole house with her moans was you.” My face heats up. “But for your sake, I had the footage of you entering and leaving my room deleted. However, I made sure to keep a copy for myself. You know, for reference.” He winked and my heart twisted. I sat paralyzed, heart slamming hard against my ribs. He couldn’t be serious. I didn’t know how I forgot about the CCTV cameras but he wouldn’t. Could he really? Even if he does, telling him to delete it would be a waste of my time. God! What the hell did I get myself into. One night of pleasure turned into a whole lifetime of horror. “What do you want from me?” I demanded, voice trembling but my gaze burned with anger. “What the hell do you want exactly?” “I already told you,” he said with a shrug. “I like having fun.” “This isn’t fun, Rhys!” I cried, frustrated, hands flailing above my head. "It's the opposite." This is pure blackmailing. He turned to me, his expression unreadable for a brief moment. Then he smiled. “No. But it could be. Especially if I help you.” I blinked. “Help me?” “Mm-hmm,” he hummed, returning his gaze to the road. “You’re terrified of losing Miles, aren’t you? And his family. You don’t even know which one scares you more, losing the man you love or the people who finally made you feel like you belonged.” My lips parted. How...What...How did he know that? “What do you mean by helping me?” I whispered, choosing to ignore his last choice of words for now. “Good. Now the right question.” He mocked. “You’re not stupid, you know how serious what happened last night really is. Although, I still don’t get why it should be. You and Miles aren’t even dating and you could easily find guys better than him." My gaze burned with anger but he continued anyways, unfazed. "I mean, from what I’ve seen, you’ve been chasing after my dear brother for years. Even his shadow didn’t do that much. I guess that was why you were so hungry and tasty for a man’s touch last night.” “Just get to the point!” I yelled, throwing him a glare that met the side of his head. He ignored the tone. “I can fix that.” He said, flashing a sweet but clearly fake smile. My brow knitted in confusion. “How?” What the heck is he thinking? And why the heck am I induging him? Rhys grinned, that wolfish kind of grin that never promised anything good. “Miles doesn’t like to see me happy. He never has. It’s always been like that. The moment I have something I like, he takes it. It’s his little obsession of wanting to take away anything that makes me happy. You know, it’s like an itch he can’t help but scratch.” Anger coursed through my veins at the way he talked about Miles. “That’s not true,” I snapped instantly, shaking my head. “You make him sound like some jealous monster. He’s not.” I've known Miles for years and he is nothing like Rhys just made him look like. How can he paint his brother in such a bad way. God! “Oh?” Rhys arched a brow, amused. “You look so defensive?” “Because you’re making things up again! Aren’t you tired of shaping things into what they aren’t?” I snapped. This is exactly what Malena meant at the table this morning. I can’t believe at this age, he still finds joy in breeding chaos. Shouldn't he have shed that skin a long time ago. He laughed. “Relax, sweetheart. It’s fine and natural you don’t believe it. But I’ll prove it to you. If he sees you with me… all cozy, all smiles, maybe even…affecionate, he’ll lose his mind. He’ll hate it. He’ll want to take you away from me. Trust me when I say I’m the only one who can get that reaction from him. No matter how many men you flirt with, it won’t make Miles flinch nor make him jealous. Unless it’s me.” I stared at him longer than necessary, disbelief etched across my face. “You really are crazy. Look Rhys, I don’t know what makes you think you’re special, nor do I care about what kind of game you’re cooking up, but just know the world doesn’t revolve around you and I certainly do not need to flirt with men to get Miles to be jealous. So drop it.” If he was offended, he didn’t show it. He chuckled instead. “Maybe,” he said simply. “But I’m also right. I am Miles's mortal enemy. The only one who can get in his way? He hates me as much as I hate him. You should know that by now.” Well, that’s true. Every time Rhys name is mentioned, Miles mood turns sore, and he looks ready to kill. An expression that contrasts his usual calm but cold demeanor. I still wondered how these two ended up being enemies despite being twins. But then, it’s the same with everyone else. No one likes Rhys and believe me, it’s understandable. You just have to sit with him for an a few minutes to know. However, my mind couldn’t help but whirl around his words. “He’ll want to take you away from me.” As ridiculous as that sounded, it was convincing. Miles and Rhys had always been that way. And I’d heard these same words thrown at me before, phrased differently, from my roommate, Lauren. She had joked that the fastest way I could get Miles to take me seriously is by making him jealous. My life must be really sad to hear the same words thrown at me again by no one other than “Mr Jerky Rhys.” “Everything I do gets under his skin.” Rhys continued. “He’s possessive. He hates it when I step into his territory. More importantly, he hates when I’m happy. So imagine what he’d think when he sees me spending time with you, his girl…best friend…whatever you two are.” He said and I glared at him. “The point is, he’ll go insane. Especially if you start ignoring him and giving me all your attention.” My heart pounded at the possibility of that. I could use Rhys to get to Miles. But… “If I say yes, what do you get out of it?” Rhys flashed me a grin that made my skin crawl. “To see Miles lose his s**t. Whoa! How tremendously beautiful that would look.” My stomach dropped. He is insane. He definitely is. “Tch! don’t get your hopes up. Miles is always calm and collected. He’s not the type to lose it just because I flirt with you or any other man. Especially not with you.” “That’s your opinion. But I can prove to you he’s worse. He just hides it well.” He extended a hand, briefly glancing at me before returning his focus back to the road. ”So, deal?” As angry as I am for the way he talked about Miles, I couldn’t help but think about the offer. The mistake is done, but this…I don’t care what sick twin rival bullshit is between the two, but the offer might help me make Miles open his eyes. As good as that sounds, my heart pounded at the possibility. I hesitated, then asked. “And what if I refuse?” “Then say goodbye to your sweet innocent reputation. Not only would you lose your place to be Miles' woman, you would also lose your face in the family’s eyes. Especially Zorya, once I leak that video.” My heart tightened. Jerk! I knew nothing good would ever come out of a favor from him. He is blackmailing for fun? I clenched my jaw, then gripped his hand in anger. “Fine. It’s a deal! So, what’s the first step?
