CHAPTER 3

CHAPTER THREE Morning came like my future promises, the next day. No matter how bad I didn’t want it to come. Morning meant remembering yesterday, yesterday meant reflecting on the incident. And that was the last thing I wanted to do. Even I wanted to hit myself at how I had managed to convince myself that it was going to be okay, sleeping with men. As the sun tuned in through the light curtain, I knew that somehow, I had to get up from my cracked bed. Even though I knew there was nothing I was going to do. At this point, I knew nothing of how I was going to survive. It would be insane of me to walk into an orphanage. I was 25, and I doubt any helping home was going to take in a green adult. With reluctance, I made my way out of the bed. I needed to think of something to do fast, so as not to end up on the streets of Los Angeles. God knows there was nothing that was going to protect me if I was thrown out there. My eyes fluttered close involuntarily, it was my own way of sighing, my own way of telling myself that eventually, it will be alright. The ring of my phone snapped me out of my depressed thoughts. It was from an unknown number. My brows raised almost immediately in question. No one ever really called me, it wasn’t like I knew much people and it was not a call from my best friend. I picked the call, and refused to say anything. “Hello, good morning. Am I onto Miss Rachael Kelly?” The voice on the on the other side of the phone asked. “Yes, you are.” I answered. “My name is Summer and I am calling from Ciel holdings. You recently submitted your application to us. You have been invited for an interview with the company. May I please ask if you accept or reject the interview? Thank you.” A lady’s voice greeted me right from the the other side of my cell phone. I didn’t have enough time to grasp and digest what it was that she was telling me. It seemed like I didn’t hear it well. Was I? “Ma’am, are you still there?” The thin voice dragged me back out of my internal turmoil. “On gosh, yes. I am here. So sorry. Yes, I accept to come for the interview.” I was trying my best no to gush and sound like a rat. I could not believe my ears. “Alright. The interview will be scheduled for Thursday, by 10am. Please ensure to be punctual. Have a good day.” She finished. I was nodding my head before I remembered that she could not see me. “Yes, I’ll be there. Have a good day. Thank you.” I said to her, and the line went dead. Immediately, I began to jump on my poor foamy bed. This was the best news I had heard all year, and we were already knocking towards July. My insides were gooey, and I could not contain my excitement. Who would have thought that when everything was going to be going bad for me, I was going to get an interview from no other but Ciel? I had been testing my luck when I had submitted my Cv as an applicant for the company. And I had gotten an interview. This was the best news ever. I just knew that I was going to get the job. Deep down in me. Unable to contain the news, I quickly dialled Quinn’s phone number. “Hey bitch.” Her voice was filled with excitement from the other side of the phone. That was when I realized that I had not told her anything regarding what happened between me and the old bag in the hotel room. “Yo. Guess what? I just got an interview with Ciel holdings.” I didn’t need to explain the company to her. Everyone knew Ciel holdings. Everyone knew it was run by no one other than the McAllister family. Michael, the first Son had been running the company for over four years now. And he had even given it more voice. Ciel was the number five out the richest company in Forbes list last year. So, it was quite popular. “The man gave you lots of money for you to settle your rent and move into a pent house?” Quinn said and I rolled my eyes. Of course, that would be the next thing to run through her mind. “About that, I kind of changed my mind last minute in the hotel room. The old hag won’t let go. So I slapped him and left the hotel room. I know you were trying to help, but I don’t think I’m cut out of that.” I sighed to the phone. “Wait, what? You slapped him? That’s too much Rachael.” I could hear the disappointment in her tone. And a soft annoyance flared in my chest. “I changed my mind. He was going to r**e me. I had to do something and leave there. It’s not like I slapped him without reason.” My tone had gone up to that if defense, and I guessed Quinn sensed that. “Oh, I get it. My bad. He deserved every part of the slap. Why would he try to force you. Anyways, I understand. So what’s the big news?” She asked and I rolled my eyes. “I said it already. I got an interview with Ciel holdings.” I told her. My ear was met with a loud scream coming from her mouth. “b***h, are you serious? This is a lot. I am so glad. This is big news. I hope you get the job. I’ll do anything for you to get it.” Her voice was filled with excitement abd I smiled. I could tell that she was genuinely excited for me. “I’m so happy too. I got the phone call this morning, and it was so surprising.” I said. “I’m so happy. Now we have to plan what you are going to wear there. I’ll be on my way.” The line went dead. Typical Quinn. She didn’t even ask me what date, she was already concerned about my looks. I didn’t mind either ways, I was just so really happy.
