Unpredictable

Episode 2

Salma was siting in the park with her father enjoying the cool breeze of that morning.

Baba can we go get some ice cream? She asked.

Her father looked at her and laughed. Sure why not?

Thank you baba. She replied happily.

They stood up and headed to the ice cream vendor to get some when suddenly salma heard someone shouting her name.

It was her friend Jiddah calling her. She excused herself and she turned and started walking towards Jiddah and as she was half way crossing the road,she heard a commotion forming behind her. She turned to her left side only to see a car coming towards her. The car was so close and salma was so shocked that she stood rooted to her spot. She couldn’t move.

And suddenly,she was pushed away and she fell to the other side of the road only to get up and see her father being hit by the car and blood was everywhere.

BABA. she shouted even though she knew he wouldn’t answer her.

She got up and ran to him. Baba, baba, please talk to me.

He turned to look at her and he said Salma,I love you.take care of yourself and be the doctor you wish to be. And those were his last words to her.

Her head started spinning. He was not breathing.

BABA. She shouted as she shot up on her bed. What a terrifying nightmare.

She remembered her father’s death vividly and it hurt her so much to know that he died because of her.

He was trying to save her when it happened. She wished she was the one that died instead of her beloved father. But she couldn’t do anything.

When her father died,the only people that helped her get over his death Was jiddah,Jafar and her therapist.

Jaafar was someone she met at the park with her father. Her father liked him so much so they became friends even though their friendship was a distant one. He tried his very best during that time to help her move on.

He bought her flowers to make her happy when she was depressed.he visit her often even though her step mom was not in favour and it hurts him to see how salma was treated at home. It was devastating.

Jafar was a successful engineer and he was a hard worker. He has always admired salma’s dedication to her studies. He kind of had a crush on her at the beginning and he never want to live her side so he could comfort her when she needed it but unfortunately he was transferred to another country due to the nature of his work.

Salma discarded her thoughts as she Stood up and headed to the bathroom to perform her ablution to pray fajr.

And when she came out she saw Safiyya sitting on her bed and going through her album.

Safiyya? What are you doing with that?

Ohh just going through it. Any problem with me doing so? Safiyya replied sarcastically.

Finish what so ever you’re doing and come down. Mama is looking for you. You should have done the dishes since last night. Lucky you. Guess you’ll have to do double.

And with that,she left the room laughing sarcastically.

Salma quietly offered her salad and she went downstairs to do the dishes. It will be a hectic day before she resumes to school.

Jiddah got home after shopping the whole day. She went straight to the kitchen and found her brother eating and she joined him.

Hey bro.

Hey sis. How was your day?

Masha Allah it was so tiresome.

Hey mumma told me that Ahmad will be paying us a visit tomorrow. Said Sa’id her brother.

What?

I can’t believe this.

She was already blushing furiously.

Why was I not informed. I mean im speechless.

Don’t worry it’s not until tomorrow.

You have enough Time to get ready.

Yaa Allah. What am i to do. I am not ready to see him yet.

Jiddah loves Ahmad so very much but she gets embarrassed every time they meet. And she couldn’t help blushing.

Ahmad is a very nice person and she is to get married to him in a month. She was so nervous. She headed to her room thinking of what will happen tomorrow.

Muhammad woke up that day feeling dizzy. He took his shower and he went to the dinning area to eat with his family.

Morning mama,morning baba.

Ohh morning my son. Replied his mother Fatima. How was your night i hope you slept well. She added.

Not really. He grumbled. As he was conversing with his mother, his sisters Zulaiha and Saudah. Joined them.

They exchanged pleasantries as zulaiha and Saudah rushed out of the house

saying that they had to go visit their friends.

After their departure, Muhammad had his breakfast and then left for work.

After his work, Muhammad branched at the cafe Kamila works to see her.As soon as he entered the cafe, Kamila saw him and gave him a welcoming smile which made his heart constrict knowing that he can’t have her as much as he wants her but he still returned the smile with a large grin showing his pearl white teeths.

Assalamualaikum. He greeted.

Waalaikumussalam Muhammad. She replied softly. How are you and how is work? I hope everything is going well? She added.

I’m fine and everything is going well except that I can’t have you. He whispered the last part.

She looked at him with worry evident on her face and all he did was to nod at her assuring her that everything is fine.

Here you go, I brought you your favorite. She said as she smiled and handed him his Frappuccino.

Frappuccino was his favorite and she knows him so well that when he rejected she kept insisting that he must take it. And after some minutes of insisting,he finally accepted the offer.

Thank you my shorty. He teased her.

Hey I’m not short,I’m average. She protested.

You know if you marry me your children will be tall right?

Muhammad asked and it didn’t go unnoticed by him that she blushed before answering him.

I told you I’m not short. I’m just in between tall and short and i would rather be short than to be too tall as a woman.

She replied.

And why did you say so? He asked curious to hear what she would say.

Because it’s our nature most girls are short or average. She answered simply.

Just as they were talking, Muhammad’s phone rang and he excused himself to answer the call. It was his mom calling him to inform him that she needed him to fetch his sisters. He groined inward as he assured her thaaat he would fetch them. After ending the call, he went back to Kamila.

I’m sorry but i have to go. My mom wants me to go get Zulaiha and Saudah. Those two annoying girls. Ahhhh.

He apologized.

Don’t worry it’s nothing and i enjoyed your company. Thank you.

He was happy to hear that and he left the cafe grinning like a fool. He felt like a burden was taken off his shoulders.

A smile from her is all it takes to maake his day.
