Chapter 16: The Blood Cure
The world was a kaleidoscope of agony.
I was floating in a sea of fire. My stomach cramped violently. It felt as if a clawed hand were inside me trying to rip my womb apart. I could not breathe. I could only scream silently as the darkness tried to swallow me whole.
I felt arms around me. Strong arms. Arms that felt like iron bands.
"Stay with me!" Kaelen roared. His voice sounded like it was coming from underwater. "Do not close your eyes Elara! You do not get to leave me!"
He was running. I could feel the thud of his heavy boots against the floorboards. He was carrying me up the stairs. He wasn't taking me to the infirmary. He wasn't taking me to the car. He was taking me to the bedroom.
He kicked the door open. The sound of wood splintering echoed in my
