Chapter 2: Their Little Adventure

1502 Words
We had a great first day! We visited the library, and cafeteria. We even met the dean. Everyone we spoke to knew we were the selected ones from the summer program. It would have been tough to get here without it. Moving out of my house to be here is overwhelming. "We need to buy groceries, Vinn," Daria said. "OK, boss, but since it's our first day, why don't we eat out? It will be my treat. What do you say?" I suggested. "No way, Aunt told me not to listen to you, even if it makes sense," Daria replied. "When did she say that? You guys are overprotective, worrying about nothing. We'll be super busy from now on. So, we can do it, right?" "Come on, it's just this time," I asked again, knowing that their little actions were showing their love for me. "No means no pooh. We will buy our stuff and head back to our place. Understand?" "Stop calling me that, or I would be pleased to give you a pretty little name." We both giggled and after some time we reached the apartment with the shopping we did in the supermarket. After dinner, we unpacked our stuff and fixed it in its place. I was going through the unit and assignments just when Daria entered my room with a cup of coffee. "Here," she said, forwarding the cup in my direction. I took it and started sipping my coffee before mumbling a small thank you. "Are you not going to sleep in your room?" I asked when I saw her making herself comfortable on my bed. "I am, but I want to ask you something. Promise me, you will listen to me to the end." "And what is it?" "You should date someone. You are getting old. I can see the wrinkles." I rolled my eyes and did not reply. She has been my best friend for the last 6 years. Annoying me is one of her favourite hobbies. I can't understand why she is so desperate to see me date someone when I am not interested and asking me this every time she gets a chance, like this moment, I was studying after dinner and she walked into my room with that smirk on her face to ask this worthless question as I knew something is coming. About her, my guess is always correct. Just then, she continued with what she was saying a while ago. "Say something you dumbo. You should start to love. We only have one life." "It hasn't been a day and you again are on the same page. Wow, what a bestie I have. Listening to you still makes me feel that I am still home but with my second mom." "That's not the answer. Are you going to date or not?" "I am sure about the reason for you asking me to find a date. You saw someone today. Didn't you? You will surely make an effort soon. I know that's the case because you think I should set myself up, so I wouldn't feel like a third wheel." She was about to argue but I cut her off. "OK. We will see if I meet someone, then I surely will. Happy?" "That is unexpected. Feel like you already have someone on your mind. I wish to see that guy as soon as possible." She said excitedly. "I didn't know that a sentence could make you this happy. For your information, I am not the one interested in anyone but you. I know you more than your parents. Now go and sleep. We have a big and boring day ahead. Good night." "Gooooood night and sweet dreams full of handsome men." I scoffed and bounced myself into the bed. It felt like heaven after a long tiring day. After a month, Our lectures ended and only the seminar is left for today. Then, We are free to relax for the rest of the day. In this whole month, we made two things clear to everyone with our behaviour and grades. One, we are best friends as well as the best students of the university. Second, we are the biggest troublemakers. Always into something, Serious or silly does not matter at all. The time is not far when all will blame us for any problem faced by campus. The world created by me and Daria is carefree which makes other students jealous, especially the toppers of both previous years. I think they should study as hard as their competitors. Not just one, but two who share the same mental issues. Since we meteach other years ago, we have been the best students. In easy words, the toppers. In studies as well as in other fields also. Despite having these skills, we chose this writing section. We thought only one of us was going to get selected, but we both made it. "Miss dialogue queen, we are getting late for the seminar. We should get going." I said to Daria while heading out of the cafeteria. "We are joining another seminar, Pooh." "Which one?" I asked as I thought, it's only Miss Esther's seminar today. "The football one." She replied. "HUH!" "There is a football match today at the field. A golden chance to check out the boys." She winked at me while showing her tongue. "Only you will be checking them out. Let's go." We will cover up for the studies as always, so I agreed. Whatever we do, we do it together. We were early, I assumed. Because there were more empty seats, it made it easy to sit in the front. Soon, more students started to gather. Daria made so many comments on the boys that I lost the count. I was wishing this to end soon. So, we could go home and finish the unit assignments. "You noticed that the sky is red today." She stared at me while I was unaware of her piercing gaze. She understood that I was unattentive to her conversation. That made her say something useless just to check. Again I hummed. It made her roll her eyes at me. "Why don't we try something so we can make you interested in our conversation? More like my conversion. What do you say?" Her sentences made me concentrate. "What!!!!!!" "I am not doing anything stupid," I added. Daria and her little adventures always come in unexpected situations. "Yes, you are." She declared. "Whoever circles the whole field first, will win and the other has to obey everything the winner says till the end of the month. No walking, only running. If you stop, you lose. Deal?" "You think we are still kids? They will be playing soon." I questioned and gave her the reason not to do so. "No excuses, baby. Ready?" I sighed. I know that she will not be backing off now, nor do I. I jumped over the boundary to take a proper stance. She did the same. "No cheating and, the finishing point will be here, from where we start." I declared. She nodded. "On the count of three," I said. "1" "2" "HEY!!!!!!" I shouted when I saw her running without me finishing the counting. Always the same. I started to run as well to cover the little difference she made between us by cheating. She can see that the stunt she pulled is no longer in use. All the attention is on us. Most of them were trying to figure out what in the world was happening to us again. In the middle of the dare she chose, we could hear the crowd cheering and laughing at us. At least, we give them the opening ceremony performance for the match. I winked at my beautiful best friend while covering the mere distance. I can feel her regretting the choice she made. In the next few minutes, I finished already. I can see her walking towards the finishing point we assumed for the race. "Already tired?" "What did you eat man?" "How can you run this fast?" "I was not fast but you were slow. You do eat a lot and you proved it indeed. I hope you remember that you finished four and a half pancakes in the cafeteria just an hour ago. And, Now be ready to be my slave." I replied, mocking her. "Word is a word, Pooh. I am ready. I can not believe I lost," she said while catching her breath. "Shall we go now if you finished with your little adventure? I don't think you can watch the match now. Your energy is drained. Isn't it?" I said while throwing my water bottle towards her direction. "Your golden period has started, my beautiful bestie." She smiled and sat on the ground by crossing her legs and soon lay down on the grass. Some of the students start laughing. some were clapping. Daria stood up and dramatically bowed to all of them. Drama queen.
