MACKENZIE One month had passed in a blur, but for me, it felt like time had stretched on painfully slow. Work had become quieter lately, with fewer clients since Jack was focused entirely on the current project. After Quinn returned from visiting her parents, she became buried in work, probably overexerting herself. It made it difficult for us to spend time together. Weekends were my escape; I kept myself busy by watching movies, reading novels, or simply doing nothing at all. One evening, as I took a bite of pizza and settled into yet another murder documentary, my phone rang. I dusted off the crumbs from my hands before answering. The caller was Quinn.
