CHAPTER FOUR. MORE DEMANDS. BLAKE’s POV. Very early the next day, I stood in front of my parents, my mother, Lilian Carter, an elderly lady looking at me with worry lines on her forehead. And my father, Gate Carter, glaring at me, his eyes blazing with fury. “I can not believe my ears. My daughter, my flesh and blood is planning on marrying our fiercest rival? The heir to the Griffin empire? Have you lost your F U C K I N G mind, Blake?” My father seethed. My mum, Lilian placed a hand on my father’s arm, a knowing look in her eyes. “Please, dear, please tell me you have thought this through. Your father is right, this could prove to be disastrous for our family. The Carters and the Griffins have never, ever seen eye to eye.” Mother said, her voice laced with concern. “I know how this looks, but it is not what you think it is. It is not as simple as you think.” I said, my voice steady. “It is not simple! Heck yeah, you are right, simple is a F U C K I N G understatement, when compared to the gravity of whatever the F U C K is happening.” Father snorted. “Father, Please, Please. Hear me out.” I pleaded with my father. “Did you ask me to hear you before you did all this?” Father snapped at me. My mother looked at me. “Blake dear, you must understand. This is not just about you, or what you want. It is about our family, our legacy. We can not just throw away everything we have worked for.” “Hold up a F U C K I N G minute, what about that dude you have been seeing? What does he think about all this?” Father asked. “He understands that this is not personal, he understands that this is business,” I said, a steel of determination in my voice and expression. My mother exhaled slowly, her eyes fixed on me, her brow furrowed in concern. “Blake, you know that I want only what is best for you, I would do anything to see you happy. But...but this..this is madness, dear. Your father is right, what about that dude you have been seeing? How will he react when he finds out you are ditching him and marrying someone else?” My father’s face contorted with rage, and he clenched his jaw. “Not only that, forget that due. What about the rest of our families? Our friends? Our employees? They will think we have lost our minds by having relations with our sworn enemies.” I met my father’s gaze, my anger reaching a boiling point inside of me. “Father I know this is hard to accept, but this merger, this marriage is our best chance at survival. The companies are on the brink of bankruptcy and you know this more than anyone else. As for our reputation, the society, or our so-called family members, I am not about to let any of them stop me from sowing what I have set my mind on, I am not letting them stop me from doing what is necessary.” My father’s eyes narrowed and he rose to his feet, abruptly. “Necessary? So-called family! Listen to me you little girl, Necessary is saving this family from disgrace. Necessary is standing up for what we believe in.” Mother quickly rose from her seat and placed herself between me and my father. “Gates, please let her speak. Blake dear, we need to understand, explain to us properly. What makes you so certain that this marriage is the solution to our problems? How can we be sure that Jace did not agree, all because he has this elaborate plan to exploit us and then take us down when he gets the right opportunity?” I smiled, my mother was more reasonable when it came to matters like this. “Mother, I understand your fears, I understand your doubts, I understand your skepticism, but do not worry. Your lovely daughter Blake has thought of it. And I am not going into this like a blind bat.” “Are you sure?” Mother asked. “Yes, I am sure mother. I have studied Jace Griffin and I know what makes him turn his back, do not worry, I know how to press his buttons and handle him. I know how to get him to dance to my tunes and agree to my terms; and that is what this is all about, the merger. And this merger requires a compromise.” I said. “And how far are you willing to compromise, Blake? Are you willing to sacrifice your life, your happiness, your peace, your freedom, your privacy for the sake of the Carter name?” My expression hardened, my eyes shining with determination. “I am willing to do whatever it takes to save our family, our name, our legacy, and our companies. Even if it means sacrificing my happiness and space, so be it. It is the least I can do, because I’m the end, that is what this is all about, isn’t it? It is all about survival and leaving a legacy.” Mother took a deep breath and her eyes shone with pride. “Blake, I know I raised a smart and determined woman, I am sure you will do great and succeed. And if anyone member of the Griffin family tries to walk over you, call me...and I will teach them a very painful lesson.” Just as I was about to respond, a man walked in. I scowled when I saw, him again. “What do you want journalist?” I roared at him. “Woah, woah calm down Blake. Or else I will make sure your little charade with Jace Griffin ends before it even starts.” The journalist, Stephen said. I gritted my teeth, this young man knows how to get on my nerves, but his threats are not something I should ignore. “What are you talking about and what do you want?” I asked him, my voice a low hiss.
