Samantha and Jake had been together for five years. They were high school sweethearts who had decided to take their relationship to the next level by moving in together. However, the stresses of living together had caused tensions to rise between them.
One afternoon, while they were tidying the apartment, Samantha noticed Jake was scrolling through his phone for what seemed like hours.
"Jake, are you ignoring me?" she asked.
"What? No, why would you think that?"
"Well, you've been on your phone this entire time."
"I'm just checking my emails," Jake replied defensively.
Samantha sighed. "It's not just about now. You're always on your phone and it feels like I'm competing for your attention."
"Well, maybe if you didn't nag me so much", he snapped back.
"Nagging? I'm just trying to communicate with my own boyfriend!"
"You always overreact", he said with an eye roll.
The argument continued to escalate until both parties were shouting at each other. They eventually reached a breaking point and decided they needed some space from each other.
As Samantha lay in bed that night reflecting on the argument, she wondered if there was a way to salvage their relationship or if it was time to move on.
