Chapter Three - To Plan

1309 Words
People are pounding at the door, but no one will let them in. The doors are locked, people are watching as they are killed, and there were even people rummaging through the isles, taking whatever they can. Realizing that there was nothing but chaos, even Tiffany knew that soon the sick would reach into the store and things would begin to go south fast. Turning around, Tiffany ran back toward the back of the store to find her mother. As she found them, the kids were on top of it already, they were filling their empty bags with canned food, candy, drinks, anything that was shelf stable. Her mother looked at her, "We will need to leave soon. Who knows how long this will last? COVED took everyone out for almost a year, let alone this." Without even thinking, Tiffany started emptying crates and filling them with canned foods, "Grab more food than anything and if your going to get drinks then grab water. If you wanna grab anything else be sure it can be shelf stable." Suddenly it hit her, "I'll have to go get the car... Both of them." Her mother looked at her, "No, we will both get a car, the kids will stay here." Tiffany's mother looked at the kids and picked her daughter up and Tiffany grabbed the boys hands, "Is there anywhere here that locks?" she asked Tiffany. "The bathrooms, follow me." They walked out of the back and into the bathrooms around the corner, "Now lock the door and don't open it for anyone but us, do not leave this room." They nodded and started to sit down and eat candy bars, the oldest of the three was waiting for the door to be closed so they could lock the door. The second the door closed, we could hear the click of the lock. Tiffany and her mother turned around and headed toward the back. As they reach it, they head outside and it is nothing but destruction. The second they opened the back of the store door, they could hear the screams. Instinctively, they started to run toward the front of the store. As they ran, a man covered in blood from head to toe with scratches across his face looked at them and watched. As Tiffany made eye contact with the man, he began to run toward them at full speed, "Get to the car, I'll meet you there!" As he almost makes contact with his mother, Tiffany pushes forward and tackles him to the ground. The man snarls and attempts to bite and scratch. He didn't say a word, he was just trying to kill her. Suddenly, his head explodes as a loud bang erupts into the air. As Tiffany looks up, she sees a group of people with guns of all kinds, and every single sick person that is out for the kill suddenly stops running and turns their heads toward them. And within seconds, they are sprinting toward them and the gunfire erupts into the air in a great multitude. She stands on her feet and runs toward the cars at the front of the store. Her mom is waiting in her car and nods and drives toward the back of the store as Tiffany runs to the PT Cruiser and hops in. Starting the car, she drives to the back of the store and backs up into the opening slowly; as she gets out, the two cars make it impossible for anything to get back into the store. Her mother comes running in with the kids and they all start throwing things into the cars. Tiffany ran out into the store and into the isles and grabbed a couple of bags of charcoal and took them back and threw them in. Tiffany started throwing water packages into the back of the car. Their mother comes running back in with bags of dog food, and Tiffany grabs a cart. She runs out to the animal side of the store and starts dumping bags of animal food in and grabs cans of food of all kinds. Then she starts to run back to the back of the store and throws everything in the back of the car. "We're running out of time, this store isn't going to be safe forever. Everyone gets in a car now. Mom, I'll meet you back at the house. Don't make any stops." They both leave the store with Aurora and Sabastion, with Tiffany and Xavier with their mother. As they drove back to the house, there was an ease of peace as they reached out of town, but as Tiffany looked off to the side for a moment she saw a pack of wolves. Out of all the things in Virginia, they weren't likely to see wolves, let alone a big pack of them. Something called out to her, but she turned her head and continued to drive the rest of the way home. She could see her mother not too far ahead of her. They finally reached the house and their father was already home. He had been waiting on the porch with a rifle. As we parked he walked toward us, "Anyone hurt?" all of us shook our heads and answered with no as the kids began to carry the crates of food and their bags inside. "Where's Jefferson?" her mother asked in worry. "He's on his way, he should be here shortly, all the cellphones stopped working a couple of minutes ago. We all need to talk. In the house," her father answered. He seemed serious, and Tiffany started to think about all the things they were going to need in the long term. As they walked in, everyone was hesitant about getting comfortable, making sure the dogs and cats were inside. They locked the doors and their father kept the gun near by. They sat down in the living room and he set the gun on the table, and they sat in silence for a moment. "I have a few ideas, if things are OK." Tiffany broke the silence with her things, "things are going to be going on for a while, so we need to set a few thing up on the property. I don't think it matters what's going on out there at the moment, we need to close the gate at the end of the driveway and set a lock on it. No one enters and no one leaves. We can start fishing in the pond for food. I hate fish, but we will need them. The coop needs to be fixed and we need to pin the chickens permanently. Last thing we need is one of those things getting out here and getting ahold of them, finally we need to get more guns. Alot more." Looking at each other, they start to set up the plan, "One week to get what we need, then we close those gates.". Her mother says, and they all nod in agreement, "I can fix up the boats. Dad showed me last summer." Sabastion adds," that'll fix it so we can go in the water and not have to worry about monsters running around. Hoping that they can't swim. "I can reinforce the coop, but we will need the supplies which we will only be able to get out of a hardware store, the closest is Colonial Heights," her father adds. "If we go there, we can get the guns. Theirs a mall, the sportings store in the mall has guns for days. We can get the kids something small to use, like bats or machetes. That and while we're there, guaranteeing we will find radios, which will help with the fact that we don't have cell phones anymore." Tiffany answers. From here, they knew what to do individually.
