3 days to learn how to be his.
Ada repeated the line in her head as Barrister Funmi drove her back to Yaba. How do you learn to be someone’s wife when you’re really just his employee?
Her phone buzzed. Bank alert.

Ada almost crashed into the dashboard. She had never seen that many zeros. Mama would live. The surgery was tomorrow.
But the price?
Funmi pulled up to her compound. “Mr. Udoka says one hour to pack. Only essentials. Your new wardrobe will be delivered to the penthouse.”
One hour to pack up her whole life.
---
The penthouse at Eko Atlantic swallowed her whole.
Glass. Marble. Silence. And Kene Udoka on the couch, working, like she hadn’t just signed her soul away.
“Bedroom is down the hall,” he said without looking up. “Yours is the master. Mine is the one next door.”
Ada froze. “I thought—”
“That you’d share my bed?” He finally looked at her. Dark eyes unreadable. “Rule 1, Ada. We only lie for the cameras. My father’s men check this place. If they see two bedrooms being used, the contract is void.”
So she had to sleep in his bed. In his room.
Funmi reappeared with a tablet. “Mrs. Udoka, your schedule.”
Mrs. Udoka. The name still felt like glass in her throat.
“6am: Stylist arrives. 7am: Civil wedding at Ikoyi Registry. 9am: Hospital to see Chief Udoka. 11am: Your mother’s surgery at Reddington.” Funmi didn’t blink. “Mr. Udoka will cover all bills if you smile convincingly.”
Ada’s hands went cold. Tomorrow. She’d be married tomorrow.
“I have rules too,” Kene said, standing. All 6’2 of him suddenly too close. “Rule 1: No one touches my wife but me. Not even to shake hands. Rule 2: You don’t speak unless I speak to you first in public. Rule 3...”
He leaned down, his breath on her ear. “You do not fall in love with me.”
Ada shoved him back. “Don’t worry. I already hate you.”
Kene’s mouth twitched. Not a smile. “Good. Hate keeps you honest.”
He walked to the master bedroom and held the door open. “Get in, wife. You have 3 days to learn how to be mine.”
The bed was huge. White sheets. Cold. Just like him.
Ada lay on the far edge, fully clothed, while Kene took the other side like she wasn’t there.
Her mother’s surgery was in 12 hours. She was married in 12 hours.
And the billionaire next to her just told her not to love him.
But as Ada stared at the ceiling, listening to his steady breathing, one thought wouldn’t leave her:
What happens if she breaks Rule 3?
