Idris opens the door and holds out his arm for me to walk ahead of him. I step into what must be an office, The walls are an off white, all the furniture is black, to my right that are shelves displaying different weapons. There are samurai swords, knives, ninja stars, I see a couple crossbows in the mix. On my left is a large window going from ceiling to floor, there is a large sofa in front of the window and there are a couple black chairs set up across from the couch. Directly in the middle of the room is a modern black desk, its large but simple. Behind the desk in a high back chair sits the man that I saw in the dungeon.
He is leaning forward in his chair, his elbows bearing his weight on the desk and his hands clasped together. He seems calm, only his clasped fist and his fingers rubbing his knuckles betray his controlled expression. He has salt and pepper hair, close cropped and clean. His expression is serious but I can see the tension in his jaw, he is clearly older but its hard to tell how old as he seems to be in great shape. He is wearing a thin black sweater that shows regardless of his age he is still buff.
There is another man in the room, the one I first met when crossing the border. I think his name is Beck, that's what the greaseball called him when I woke up. Idris passes by me and stands next to the seated man, they all just stare at me in silence. I walk to the center of the room, not sure what else to do, and just look at the seated man.
"Have a seat." he says, with a gesture of his hand. Before I can say where, Beck grabs a chair and puts it behind me. I sit obediently.
"Where did you get this necklace?" He holds up my open locket.
"I don't know. I have always had it." I respond plainly.
"Who gave it to you?"
"I don't know. I would assume my parents, but I cant really be sure."
"Why aren't you sure?" He leans in a little closer. My answer seems to have peeked his interest.
"I was abandoned when I was one. I don't know who my parents are or why they left me. I have always had that necklace though, through all the foster homes I have been able to hang on to it. I didn't even know it was a locket until just a few days ago. My wolf said she thought the picture meant we were to come to the black moon pack, so here we are."
"What is your name?"
"Selena Santos." I respond. His head jerks back slightly in surprise, his eyebrows furrowed in confusion for a moment. He looks down at his desk, presumably in thought, before he looks back at me. He exhales a long breath and nods. He seems almost angry at finding out this information.
"Did you know what this means?" he asks, holding up my locket. The side that once held the picture of the black moon, has since been removed. I stand up and walk over to his desk to get a closer look. I see another inscription, but instead it is a picture carved into the gold. How had I not thought to look at this before, in it there is a wolf, one half of the wolf is black and the other side is just the outline. Coming off the the top left of the wolf the fur seems to turn in to nothing, the bottom left the the fur seems to become a wave, the top right into fire, and the bottom right dissolves into roots. Coming directly out of the top seems to be white and black smoke swirling around each other, its stunning, but it doesn't mean anything to me. I shake my head no.
"Well, lets cut to the chase then. This necklace I gave to my daughter for her 18th birthday, it did not have this carving when I gave it to her nor the picture of the black moon. The fact that you have it and you carry a a close family name can only mean one thing. You are her daughter."
My jaw drops. This guy is my grandfather, I have a relatives. Wow this is kind of heavy. We just look at each other, his expression softens a little.
"I don't know. Maybe I am not the person you think I am. Maybe some just found this necklace and assumed it was mine. I don't know, there could be other explanations. " I say
"I know you are." He says with so much confidence I almost believe him. "You have her eyes, you are the daughter of my daughter. Your theory carries a few holes. That would be a pretty big coincidence that someone finds a locket and assumes its yours and you just so happen to be a wolf? Come on, you are smarter then that." He gives me a small smile. He seems as uncomfortable as I am with this information, I look at the floor, unsure how to act now. Hearing this news from a stranger that I am related too with two other strange men. Beck is stone faced not even looking at me, Idris looks from the Alpha to me, like he wants to say something but he doesn't.
"Is she here?" I ask quietly, I look up at his face, not wanting to seem to hopeful. A look of sadness comes across his face.
"No, I am sorry. She died a long time ago." He looks towards the window lost in thought. This seems to be hitting him pretty hard. I want to ask more questions, I have a million, but he is hurting. I don't want to push him, I know how loss feels. I just sit and wait for him to speak. After a couple minutes Idris clears his throat, now brought back from his thoughts the alpha looks back at me. He gives an apologetic smile.
" I apologize for the less then pleasant greeting you received. Please understand we had no way of knowing who you are. Now I am sure you have some questions. Would you like to ask anything? Or, I know the cells are a little rough, would you like to clean up? get some rest? You are welcome here, I am sure you have come a long way. "
I look down and see my dirty clothes, I take a whiff and realize I smell terrible. I do want to get cleaned up, but I am in a strange house with strange men. I don't know them, and I don't know if what he is saying is true. I gather my courage before I respond.
"I don't know you, hell apparently I don't really even know my self. These last few days everything seems to have gone crazy. Since I have been here I have been knocked out by that guy," I say gesturing to Beck "locked up in a cell, and jumped by some greasy guy in your dungeons. So I don't know where we are supposed to go from here." I maintain eye contact, as I get out the last few words I hear the strength in my voice.
Beck has finally turned his attention to me and looks like he wants to slap me. Idris has a smirk on his face and the alpha looks stone cold. I don't break my eye contact with him, I feel like he is testing me, so I wait. I see the corners of his mouth twitch, then the smile takes over his face, he laughs, a booming deep laugh. I look at Idris confused, he starts laughing as well and Beck just looks annoyed at the both of them.
"You are definitely my blood. We back down from no one. You remind me so much of your mother just now. " he smiles reminiscently. "I understand. Look you are my grand child, my blood. You will now have a home here," He says as he comes around the desk. He Is close enough I can reach out and touch him. He leans against the desk. "This is all new and we didn't start out on a good foot. It seems there is so much to go through that its hard to determine where to start. How about you take some time, Idris will show you your room and when you are ready you can come to my office."
I look at him skeptically, I am in a house full of strangers. "What's to stop someone from coming into my room. How do I know any of this is true. You say you can tell I am your granddaughter but I cant tell, you are confident about the fact but I am not."
"These are valid points." He nods in agreement. "Well if it makes you feel any better the room you will have does have locks that can only be opened from the inside, and I think it might help if you take a look at this." He reaches behind him and grabs a picture frame, he flips it around it and I see him, a younger version of him, his hair is longer and its black, his eyes are warm, he looks happy. He stands next to a smaller woman of a similar age, her long hair goes to her waist and it is a beautiful chocolate brown color. I grab the picture to look closer, they stand side by side and in front of them holding a bouquet of flowers, wearing the same necklace I have, is a beautiful young woman. She looks the same age as me, I see some similar features but the eyes, the eyes on the older woman and the young girl are the same. They are my eyes, amber and honey that I have never seen on any one else.
I look up at the man before me, unsure what to say. He doesn't seem to know either, he just looks at me and I see something, he looks hopeful.
"What are their names?" I ask
He looks surprised, then just shakes his head. "Of course. Your mother, her name was Mireya, and my mate, your grandmother. Her name was Selena."
"Oh." Is the only thing I can think to say. So my mother had to have given me my name. No way that is a coincidence. A few tears come to my eyes, realizing I have had more of a connection to my family this whole time. I wonder if she told someone, or maybe there was a note or a bag with the name on it. I look back at the alpha and I realize.
"What is your name?" I ask, blinking the tears away before they can be noticed.
"Sorry, I am Ezekiel, the Alpha of the Black Moon pack." He says with authority. "But you can call me Ez if you like."
"Ok." I nod, starting to come to terms with everything. "Where will I be staying." I ask.
Ez smiles at me and I can see more of the man in the photo. He stands up and heads towards the door.
"Right this way, Oh and before I forget, I know you have met them already but I feel a formal introduction is required. This is Idris, my Beta and Beck my Gamma. They can assist you with anything you need, If you are unable to locate me." I nod and give a small smile to Idris, he returns it. I just look at Beck, he is now looking at me, but its as if he is looking right through me. I turn away and follow Ez out the door.
