Chapter 14 Stop. (Seraphine’s POV) The door creaked open. I lowered my legs and readjusted my nightdress. Valefar slunk into my bedroom and I somehow convinced myself to look him in the face. “Sera,” I cringed. I hated the slimy voice he used to taint my name. “Master Valefar,” I moved away from him as he sat on the end of my bed. His clothes were dishevelled, his hair a blonde mess. Despite it all, I found myself concerned for him. “Are you alright?” It should have been him asking me that, and yet there I was, being as pathetic as usual. “Yes, yes, I was just…” The words died on his tongue. That was unusual for Valefar. He always had a snarky comment or witty remark to throw out. “I was testing something.” I remained silent. “I suppose you want to know who I’ve chosen as your mate?” He beamed, switching back to his normal self, acting as though this was a gift to me. I stared at him. “Are you going to kill him if I talk to him?” Valefar chuckled. “I have no plans to kill myself, so better luck next time.” I c****d my head to the side, not quite understanding his joke. “Pardon? What do you mean by that?” “Those sad sacks of puppies just weren’t cutting it. I decided you were too perfect for them to blemish. I have it all; the looks, the humour, the power… I am the only one I’ll allow to touch you.” “What?” Fear suffocated my voice, reducing it to a whisper. “I- I don’t understand,” “I’m going to mate with you Sera. We’re going to create a creature that is both demon and werewolf and,” he stopped speaking and grinned at me. Twisted, evil, happy. “You know, I can pretend it’s just about making some magical hybrid, but it’s not just that. The thought of one of those filthy mutts even breathing on you makes me sick.” Valefar moved closer. My back was against the head of the bed. I was trapped in the corner. He reached out to me and tucked a strand of hair behind my ear. Every muscle in my body tensed and I was on edge. This was new, we’d entered an unknown and I had no idea how to react. “You’re so beautiful, Sera. My loyal Hellhound,” “I’m a wolf,” “You’re a Hellhound, honey.” His fingers grazed down my neck, my arm and then he yanked the cuff around my wrist, forcing me to look at it. “You’re MY Hellhound. I OWN you. It should be an honour to have my c**k throbbing inside of you.” “No,” I whimpered, shaking my head and trying to hold back the tears. “I will claim your innocence. I deserve it for letting you live all those years ago. I have given you a life fit for a princess and you have grown into a remarkable woman. I should reap the rewards of my hard work. I moulded you into this; not your f*****g Alpha. Not your pathetic pack. Me.” Valefar snatched my ankle and no matter how much I tried to kick him off, he easily tugged me towards him. He held me down on the bed and I thrashed with all my might. I tried desperately to summon the energy I felt earlier when I was so enraged. Maybe I could manifest it into something useful. Maybe I had a hidden power that could save me. Unfortunately, Valefar was muttering under his breath. Whatever curse he spoke made the runes on my cuffs glow, draining my strength away. “VALEFAR STOP!” I pleaded as one of his hands pushed my nightdress up my thigh. “RENRIK, HELP!” I don’t know why I called for my mate. A last ditch effort to get myself out of that horrific situation. It was foolish of me to think he’d be able to hear my cries. I didn’t want Valefar to be my first time. I didn’t want the Demon Duke to mark me as his. I didn’t want a demonic pup to grow in my womb. “Renrik,” I sobbed, letting the tears finally fall. Before Valefar could unzip his pants, a swirling vortex of fire opened in my room with a blast of heat. Through my tears I could see two figures step through the portal. My eyes widened. “Renrik!” I screamed. He was exactly how I dreamed. There was no mistaking who he was and that blue aura pulsed around him like a halo. His scent filled the room, giving me hope. “You’ve got to be kidding me,” Valefar sneered. Renrik flew across the room at lightning speed. His large hand wrapped tightly around Valefar’s throat. “What the f**k do you think you’re doing to my Luna?” Renrik growled with the intensity of a hurricane. He squeezed the demon’s neck, crushing his windpipe, and started to lift Valefar off of me. I scrambled out of the way, falling onto the floor. I glanced up at the scene and spotted trails of steam curling around Renrik’s hand. “Renrik,” I gasped, the name dry in my mouth. “Your hand…” He was singed by Valefar’s red-hot skin. Renrik kept his eyes on his foe as he responded. “I’m fine. Kent, get Seraphine out of here.” “Right!” My head snapped to the second man who’d emerged through the portal. He looked at me, flashed me a friendly smile and took my hand into his own. “Let’s get you out of here.” I turned back to Renrik. Valefar’s nails stretched into long, sharp, talons. He stabbed them into Renrik’s arms, muscles spasming, trying to pry him away. Renrik shouted in pain and his free fist rose, reeled back and then connected with Valefar’s nose in a frightening punch. I heard the CRACK. Valefar’s straight nose shifted and I knew the demon’s vanity would never let the wolf get away with it. “Renrik!” I yelled, pulling against this ‘Kent’ guy as he tugged me towards the portal. “GO!” Renrik commanded, the Alpha energy reverberating through his words, compelling me to obey. And yet… “Renrik!” I pushed Kent away and when he went to manhandle me again, I gave him a stern stare. “Don’t, touch me.” Kent’s hands flew up in surrender. Valefar pulled his claws out of Renrik’s arms and re-aimed them at his face. They jabbed forward and I thought it pierced Renrik’s eye as blood spurted violently from the wound. Valefar cackled, enjoying the crimson spray like it was summer rain. The Alpha winced and reached down to grab something from his boot. With a swift flick of his wrist, Renrik sliced through Valefar’s side. It was a knife. Renrik held the demon against his body and used the blade to carve a strange symbol into Valefar’s flesh. A blood-curdling scream resounded around the room and Valefar suddenly let go of the Alpha. He slashed against Renrik’s forearm, finally causing the wolf to let go of his throat. In a jumbled mess of limbs, Valefar retreated to a corner of the room and examined the mark Renrik had given him. “You little d**k,” Valefar hissed. His tongue split into two again, eyes turned snake-like and mini horns protruded from his forehead. “A banishing ward,” venomous fangs on show as he smiled. “How crafty of you.” Renrik panted and covered his injured eye with his good hand. A mix of his own deep-red blood and the sizzling black ooze from Valefar dripped down his arms. “A gift from my little brother,” he hummed. Black smoke started to rise and collect around Valefar. “It won’t send me far, imbecile. This is my domain.” The smoke consumed him and I watched the glowing light of his violet eyes get snuffed out before he disappeared completely from sight. The smoke dispersed in an instant. Wasting no time, Renrik turned to me, blue eyes shining despite the dark bags under them. “Seraphine… let’s go,” I took in a shaky breath and said, “No.”
