Chapter 2

The morning sun cut through Silverridge City’s haze, glinting off the chrome of my bike parked outside the Destructors’ clubhouse. The lot was a mess empty beer cans, cigarette butts, and the faint scent of wolf musk lingering in the air. My head throbbed from last night’s chaos, but my wolf was wide awake, buzzing from the memory of Luna’s skin against mine. Naughty Kitten. That firecracker of a she-wolf had torn through my defenses, and now her scent—leather and wildflowers—clung to me like a brand. My mating bond hummed, pulling me toward her, but she’d bolted out of my bed like I was the devil himself. Trouble was, I liked the chase. I leaned against my bike, scanning the lot as my betas, Pike and Bear, lounged nearby, their eyes sharp for trouble. The merger with the Destructors was a powder keg, and Luna’s crew wasn’t making it easy. Her scent hit me again as she stormed out of the clubhouse, her crew trailing like a pack of feral cats. Killyama’s glare could’ve peeled paint, and Crazy b***h muttered something that made T.A. laugh. Fat Louise hung back, looking guilty, probably for letting Luna get plastered last night. “Stud, you gonna handle this Ace mess?” Pike asked, cracking his knuckles. His buzzed head and scarred arms screamed fighter, but he knew better than to challenge me. “Let him yap,” I said, keeping my voice low. “He’s no alpha. Just a mutt with a grudge.” Bear snorted, his massive frame shifting. “He’s riling up the Destructors. Says Luna’s with you now, betraying her own.” I gritted my teeth. Ace was a problem, a beta who’d lost his shot with Luna and now wanted to burn it all down. His lies about her could spark a rebellion, and with Candi sniffing around my pups, I didn’t need more chaos. Star, Meri, and Keri were safe with Sizzle for now, but Luna’s mother was a scatterbrain. I trusted Fat Louise to keep an eye out, even if she was sloppy last night. Luna’s green eyes locked on me from across the lot, her leather jacket hugging her curves. My wolf growled, wanting to close the distance, but her glare said she’d claw me first. “You got a problem, Riggs?” she snapped, her voice sharp enough to cut glass. I smirked, pushing off my bike. “Just admiring the view, Naughty Kitten. You're gonna keep running, or face what happened?” Her cheeks flushed, but she held her ground. “Keep your paws off me, alpha. Last night was a mistake.” “My wolf says otherwise,” I shot back, stepping closer. Her scent hit me hard, and the bond pulsed, making my blood hum. She felt it too—her eyes flashed emerald, her wolf peeking out. Killyama stepped between us, her stance all business. “Back off, Stud. We got enough crap with Ace stirring shit.” I raised a hand, signaling peace. “Tell your boy to stand down, Luna. Or I’ll make him.” She scoffed, tossing her dark hair. “Handle your own pack, Riggs. I’m not your bitch.” The words stung, but her fire only made me want her more. I watched her stalk off, her crew falling in line, and my gut twisted. She was mine, whether she admitted it or not. But with Ace spreading lies and Candi lurking, I had to play this smart. Pike nudged me, his voice low. “Boss, we got eyes on Candi. She was near the pups’ school yesterday.” My wolf snarled, claws itching to shift. Candi, Star’s deadbeat mother, was a ghost from my past, a she-wolf who’d used me to cover her mess with my brother, Calder. Star wasn’t mine by blood, but she was mine in every way that mattered. If Candi thought she could waltz back and claim her, she’d regret it. “Find her,” I told Pike. “And keep Calder out of it. He’s barely holding it together.” Bear nodded, cracking his neck. “What about Luna’s crew? They’re trouble, Stud. Killyama’s itching for a fight.” “Let them blow off steam,” I said, my eyes still on Luna’s retreating figure. “They’ll come around. Or Luna will.” I headed for the clubhouse, needing to check on Skulls. The old alpha was loyal, but his pack was fracturing. Inside, the air was stale, the bar littered with last night’s wreckage. Skulls stood by the jukebox, his graying beard and broad shoulders still commanding respect. He nodded as I approached, but his eyes were wary. “Stud, Ace is trouble,” he said, his voice gruff. “He’s got half my boys thinking Luna’s turned traitor.” “She’s no traitor,” I said, my tone sharp. “She’s just stubborn. Like her old man.” Skulls chuckled, but it was strained. “Watch your back, Riggs. And hers. She’s my daughter, but she’s got a wolf’s temper.” I nodded, respecting his warning. Luna was a storm, but I’d weather it. My phone buzzed—Sizzle, texting about the pups. I sighed, knowing I needed to check on them. Meri and Keri were tough, but Star was sensitive, too much like Calder. If Candi got near her, I’d tear the city apart. As I stepped back into the lot, a familiar scent hit me—Candi’s cloying perfume, mixed with cheap booze. She leaned against a truck, her blonde hair tangled, her eyes glinting with malice. “Wyatt Riggs,” she purred, using my racing name. “Miss me?” My wolf growled, but I kept my cool. “Get out of Silverridge, Candi. You’re not welcome.” She smirked, stepping closer. “Star’s mine, Stud. You can’t keep her forever.” I closed the distance, towering over her. “Try me. You touch her, you’re done.” She laughed, unafraid. “You think Luna’s gonna save you? She’s a kid playing tough. And when Calder hears the truth, you’ll lose everything.” My fists clenched, but I held back. Calder was out of rehab, fragile, and Star’s paternity could break him. “Stay away from my family,” I warned, turning away before I shifted and ended her. Back at my bike, Pike and Bear waited, their faces grim. “She’s working with Ace,” Pike said. “Spotted them talking last night.” I cursed under my breath. Ace and Candi together were a wildfire waiting to burn. Luna’s crew was already loading up, heading to her salon, and I knew I had to follow. The bond pulled me, but so did duty. The racing rally was coming, my chance to cement Blue Moon’s dominance, and I couldn’t let Ace’s rebellion or Candi’s schemes derail it. I swung onto my bike, the engine roaring to life. Luna thought she could run, but I’d catch her. Silverridge was my city, my pack, and she was my mate. Ace, Candi, and anyone else who got in my way would learn what an alpha’s fury looked like.
