Three

Megan’s POV. When did I realise that fate wasn’t on my side? That would be when my father died suddenly and I was thrown out of the place I’d called home for more than eight years. At first I’d let myself believe that things could still work out for me, I let myself believe that I could work and get myself the life I wanted, but the second time the reality of fate’s unfairness towards me hit, was when I realised that navigating this world as a human, a rare and very looked down upon creature, was difficult and very unrewarding. In recent years life began to look up for me, but it seemed fate had gotten the urge to remind me that I could never truly be on her good side, because one day I had a decent life, sure I was living paycheck to paycheck, but I had a boyfriend that loved me and a roof over my head, and then the next… my boyfriend leaves me for another woman and I was pregnant for my stepsister’s fiancé. The same stepsister that spent her entire life convinced that I was some kind of witch intent on taking father’s love, the same stepsister that constantly mocked me about being a human and had spent her entire life determined to lower my self esteem to nothing, the same step sister that made sure to make my life hell and had watched with a wide grin as my stepmother threw me out of the house. And now I was standing in front of the mansion that I’d grown up in, clutching the pregnancy results with fear and determination. It looked exactly as it did the last time I was here, almost three years ago now, trimmed hedges, the walls were made of stone and seemed to gleam under the glare of the sun, the place screamed affluence and wealth… and home. My heart ached at the mere sight of this place and I can’t help but remember all the time I spent with my father here, playing on the lawn, hiding in the hedges. He’d have hated to know that was kicked out. But it was what I deserved really, I was a human, I wasn’t a real part of them or a part of their family, no matter how much I wanted to be. “Megan,” I heard a voice screech from the entrance of the house. I look up and force a smile onto my face as Lia, my brown haired step sister glares down at me. “H-hi…” I try to greet her, but she ignores me and turns to the doorman with fire in her eyes. “Get her out of here now!” She yells, her usually pale face is red with rage and she’s shaking when she points at me. “Why did you even let her in?” The doorman stammers and I step forward and cut in before the poor male can get into any more trouble. “I didn’t give him much of a choice really, I have something important to tell you and I thought…” “You thought what?” She hisses, she turns to face me with hatred in her sky-blue eyes, they look exactly like my father’s, it makes my heart clench a little at the sight. “I don’t even want to hear what you have to say, just get out!” “But Lia,” I try to plead with her. “It’s about your Fiancé, he…” Her eyes go cold and she marches down the stairs of the grand entrance to me. I stumble back when she stops in front of me and sneers into my face. “What the f**k did you just say?” “I… I have something to tell you about your Fiancé…” I stutter, she glares at me and even though a part of me wanted to turn and run, she’d treated me like absolute garbage my entire life, but she didn’t deserve to marry a cheater, she had every right to know what he’d done and I… I needed to help in reaching him so he could take responsibility for what had happened. “My boyfriend asked me to do something for him, to save his life… and that favour meant that I would have to sleep with you fiancé.” Her eye twitches. “I didn’t know he was your fiancé of course or I’d never have slept with him, and now I’m pregnant and I just wanted to know and I need your help, I know you don’t like me but…” I ramble, but her shriek of rage interrupts me. “You… you w***e! You’re just like you were back then, so eager to steal every bit of the love I had,” she rages, her words make me frown and once again I open my mouth to explain, but she shuts me up with a harsh glare. “I don’t know what your angle is, or who the real father of your bastard is, if you’re even pregnant, but let me tell you now, Xander is mine, he’s mine and he’ll always be so. So get the duck out of this compound before I have you dragged out by the hair.” “But Lia I swear I’m not lying, I have proof that I’m actually pregnant and what reason would I have to lie?” I plead, I’m trying my hardest not to cry and scream in frustration, but Lia looks at me like I’m merely an insignificant speck of dust. “You’re a human, a pathetic ugly b***h in the world of werewolves, you think you can use me or my family to get ahead? You’re f*****g mistaken,” she lifts her shoulders. “This is the last time I’ll say it, get out, or I swear I’ll drag you out of here myself.” She turns around and walks away from me angrily, I watch her pause to berate the doorman then strut back into the mansion and slam the door shut. I stand here with my heart racing and my breaths coming out shorter and shorter. Fate wasn’t done with me, because I turned to leave with tears streaming down my face and my face and my next destination in mind. ——— It took me two weeks to find him, Xander. In between bouts of morning sickness and unexplained sadness, I scoured the internet in search of him. There was surprisingly little information for someone who I assumed was incredibly rich and powerful, but still I searched, I went to all the weird websites, I paid suspicious people to get me his address using what was supposed to be next month’s rent, but that didn’t matter right now, I could always pull double shifts, triple shifts, I couldn’t do this alone, and I certainly wouldn’t back down from this, I had to make sure that my child would have a better life than whatever I could offer. Eventually, I found him. After hours of staring at screens and paying shady guys in dingy alleyways, I finally found him. But I felt my heart drop and I could even hear Fate’s laughter in my ear when I discovered who he was. Alpha Callum’s first son, the one who’d spent years living in another pack in the states and had returned to begin the transition between him and his father. He was the father of my child. He was the one I slept with for a favour. That revelation alone was enough to make me throw up all over again. Finding out where he lived after that wasn’t that difficult, the Alpha’s house was at the far end of the pack and a quick car ride brought me to the heavily guarded home. My legs trembled as I walked closer and closer to the stone-faced warriors guarding the place. It wasn’t hard to get in, what was hard however was getting permission to see the Prince. “I have to talk to him urgently, just tell him who and I and he’ll know,” I pleaded with the head maid. She stares at me with disgust in her eyes, the usual disgust when people figure out I’m a human. “I highly doubt the Prince would associate with your type, please leave before I escort you out.” This is the second time in two weeks I’m having these words thrown at me, but much like last time I have no plans of backing down or turning away. I clench my fists and meet the older female's eyes with more determination. “Let me in or I’ll run in myself and find him,” I spit out. Her frowns deepens. “I’ll have you thrown into the dungeons. Leave, now.” “No, this is important, you can’t just…” “What’s going on here?” A low voice calls out from in front of me. My heart jumps in my chest when his voice washes over me, I look past the maid and standing there is him, Xander, dressed in black from head to toe and surrounded with wolves that I know are pack mobility as well. His eyes heat and then turn to steel when they land on me, he tightens his jaw. “Your majesty,” I whisper. Then before the male can react I rush forward and stop in front of me. His eyes scan me quickly and then widen when they land on my stomach, I know he can scent it, his own child. “I came because-“ “Who are you?” He asks coldly and my mouth drops open. “You’re so eager to meet me, yet I don’t even know who you are.” “What do you mean you don’t even know who I am? You f****d me,” the words fly out of my mouth with anger lacing every syllable. “And now I’m pregnant and you have to take responsibility!” The nobles murmur amongst themselves, some look at me with disbelief other look at me with disgust, but I really could give a f**k. I’ve been thrown out, disgraced, abandoned, I was not going to let that happen to my child. “I don’t care if you don’t want me, but it’s your child and…” “My child?” He lifts a brow, unruffled and unamused. “I don’t know what you’re on, but it seems you’ve mistaken me for a man that would stoop that low. I have no idea who you are and I would like for you to leave, now.” “How can you say that?” I screech. “I would never sleep with a pathetic human like yourself, in case you didn’t know I’m engaged,” his eyes go even colder. “I wouldn’t risk my engagement for one night with a thing like you. So I’ll say it again. Get out.” My heart slams against my chest and I take a step closer to him. “How… could you?” “Have her removed,” he hissed at me, and before I can even let out an outraged cry, I’m dragged out of the mansion, kicking and screaming and cursing the bastard, with hot tears rolling down my face. Fate really was a b***h. And she proved she was even more of a b***h when that same night I was threatened by my step mother and practically chased out of my pack, alone and with only the small cash that I’d saved up all these weeks. I cried and cursed and begged the goddess to help me. Whether she listened or not, I wasn’t sure. But after scraping through for eight months, I went into labour. After sixteen hours of screaming and pain I finally stared into three pairs of blue eyes and I cried hot tears once more as I stared into the perfect image of Xander on all three of my children.
