Chapter 5

430 Words
When she woke up again, she was in a hospital ward. Sophie was sitting right by her bedside, cool as a cucumber, taking a bite of an apple. It was just the two of them alone in the ward. Emily let out a bitter laugh at the sight of her. "How do you even have the nerve to sit here?" There was no question about it—Sophie was the one who leaked that story online. Sophie tucked a strand of hair behind her ear and said nonchalantly, "Sweetheart, is that any way to talk to me? "I came here out of the kindness of my heart to take care of you. Plus, I have something to tell you." She held her phone up right in front of Emily's face. "The competition committee already put out a statement saying your work was plagiarized. So your result has been invalidated." She looked at Emily with smug satisfaction, savoring the look of terror on her face. Emily snatched the phone out of her hand. The official seal of the committee was right there in front of her. She had no choice but to believe it. But this entry was the fruit of countless sleepless nights, one after another. Sophie let out a cold, mocking sneer. She snatched her phone back from Emily's hand and said, "Emily, whatever I want, I get. No matter what it takes. That was true ten years ago, and it's still true now. "If you don't get the hell out of here right now, you will never have a good day again. I booked a trip for Mom and Dad. They've gone to Antarctica. No one is going to help you this time." Sophie's voice was laced with venom, her eyes blood red, her whole body like that of an enraged wild beast. Emily had no time for these childish, empty threats. She only wanted to hurry and find evidence to prove she hadn't plagiarized. Seeing that Emily was ignoring her, Sophie stepped in front of her to block her path. In the middle of their scuffle, Sophie suddenly deliberately threw herself against the foot of the bed, then crumpled to the floor. She furrowed her brow, clutched her lower abdomen in obvious agony, and dark red fluid slowly seeped out from between her legs. Was she pregnant? "Sophie!" Liam had just arrived at the ward, still cold from the outside air. He rushed forward anxiously and carried Sophie to the operating room. Emily gave a self-mocking smile. He wasn't acting like this when she lost the baby.
