Zakariah was a colonel in the army, of the same country. They were thrown into a civil war for the past 2 years now. They were fighting against the rebels who were trying to overthrow the current government. They had already destroyed the basic infrastructure of this city, leaving the people in dire circumstances.  On his request, few medical teams were being arranged from their neighbouring countries. There has been a recent attack on his base, taking his whole unit down and injuring many of his able soldiers.  That left him burning from rage, he wanted to destroy the rebels from their root. He had been looking for their aids and informers for quite some time now. He promised himself that he will not relax until he brings the culprits to justice.  He hated those rebels with a passion, their thoughtlessness and greed have put this nation into a never-ending war ! Millions of civilians were displaced or killed. The government wasn't any better, but before this war things were much better.  His confidante reported that soldiers were able to seriously injure their head. That was the only silver lining in this whole episode. They were trying to track him for a long time now.  'Any news about their aids or informants?' Zakariah asked him. 'Nothing in particular but Last night the main doctor was missing from her room ' Zakariah's spy informed him. 'Are you sure? ' Zakariah asked. 'Yes' 'Are the rebels involved?' He asked again. 'We don't know that, but we will keep an eye on her from now on, she may be beguiled by their cause and supporting them. ' he said. Zakariah decided to pay a visit to the hospital, he wanted to probe more into this.  'These doctors need to mind their own business and do the task for what they were brought for, rather than meddling in country affairs. ' he thought.  When he reached the hospital and saw it filled with his wounded soldiers, his blood boiled from inside.  He will root them out one day!  While moving around, he saw a beautiful woman dressed in a white coat, treating his soldiers. She looked weak and tired, but her beauty was still intact.  His aid pointed out that she was the one. He reached her and introduced himself as Colonel Zakariah.  She nodded in acknowledgement. She consciously avoided any further interaction. After a while, she excused herself and got busy in her work. That left him puzzled. Zakariah later addressed the foreign medical staff, Informing them about the attack and asked them to be careful from the rebels.  He also asked if anyone of them has encountered any unusual suspects, they must inform them. He was carefully keeping an eye on her, when he saw different shades of emotions passing through her face, he became sure that she was involved somehow. He prompted them to come forward and share any information they might have.  He also warned them repeatedly that any engagement with rebels will label them as associates and the punishment for that is death !! When Sarah heard that, she turned pale and began sweating profusely. She was torn between whether she should inform them or not.  She neither wanted to die a 'painful death' by rebels nor a 'traitors death' by the government.  She just wished the remaining period to pass quickly, so that she could return back to her own country.  How ungrateful we are for these blessings we have, such as a free country !!  Zakariah was aware of the sudden change in her demeanour. He was expecting that after the end of the meeting she will stay back and inform him about any information she might have.  But he was disappointed when she left quietly with other staff members. He asked his aid to keep a close eye on her at all times. Few more days passed like that and Sarah almost forgot about that incident and got busy in her job. She was returning one evening back from her work, down the narrow alley, when her way was blocked by the same black-clad men. Her heart skipped many beats altogether.  'What do you want now ? ' she asked frightened.  'The patient's condition is worsening, you need to check him again.', one of them answered sternly.  'Listen, please army is keeping a strict eye on us, I might end up in serious trouble. why don't you take him to the city? ', she suggested. 'If you will refuse to come with us, we will kill you right here and that will be bigger trouble for you ', they warned her. 'Ok..ok...I will go with you, just keep this gun away please ', she gave in eventually. They blindfolded her again and took her away. Zakariah's man was observing everything and he left immediately to inform him. ******** When Sarah reached the patient, he was burning high in fever and there were signs of infection over the wound.  She administered antibiotic injections and cleaned his wound.  She was finishing the dressing of his wound when she heard the firing sounds from outside. She covered her ears and gave a sharp cry.  There was a sudden descent of chaos around her, the men surrounding her were now carrying the patient away from the back doors while she was left alone to fend for herself.  She hid in a corner, covered her ears and closed her eyes. After sometime when the bullets stopped firing, she opened her eyes to find herself surrounded by the army soldiers. They were pointing their guns at her!  'What the hell! I am the doctor from the camp ', she said angrily, while still shaking in fear.  One of the soldiers butted her head and she lost her consciousness.  ☆☆▪︎▪︎▪︎Plz Vote & Comment ▪︎▪︎▪︎☆☆
