“I didn’t lie,” I whimper, trying to break free of his grip.
“You hid this,” he counters, his soulless eyes searching mine.
I blink, trying to look at him again, to see the clear blue of his eyes, which I only see in pictures now, but my vision seems to be hazing now.
“What for? To come and manipulate me with that bond?” He scoffs, giving me no chance to get a word in before he speaks. “You’ll never get the chance, your family has manipulated me enough.”
“You’re hurting me,” I choke out. “Let go…”
“I have no desire to touch you,” he snaps, roughly pulling away. “I, Alpha Killian Xavros of Crimson Moon pack reject you, Raelynn Alyn Penrose as my mate.”
His words knock the air out of my lungs and my knees buckle, feeling like something is clawing at my chest.
“Ah!” I scream, clutching my chest as if it'll make the tearing sensation stop. My wolf whimpers, slowly weakening.
I utter a soft apology, I did this to us, I’m killing her. I knew this day would come, I just didn’t know it would hurt as much.
My brother crouches down beside me, but the second he touches me, the bond screams, it
doesn’t recognise him as my brother, it recognises him as betrayal.
“Let her go,” someone says. “You’re making it worse.”
“Accept my rejection,” he groans, staring down at me.
My lips part, and I try to speak, but I can't. I feel like my soul is getting clawed to shreds. “I…acce…ughhh!” I cry out.
“Accept it,” he repeats, not caring about the pain I’m in.
I suck in a breath, pulling together what little strength I have to accept his rejection so this can stop, so I can save Echo.
“I Raelynn Alyn!… Pe-pen-penrose accept..your..” My wolf howls, and I scream out loud, the pain is too much. The words make my throat burn, like they don’t belong there.
“No, you can't reject her.” Someone says, a feminine voice. Ariella, definitely her. I can't recognise it past the ringing in my ears, but no one else would dare interfere. “Did you not feel that? Your bond…it—”
“No, Ariella.”
“I felt it too, Alpha Killian.” Someone else says.
“Rejecting her will weaken you as well as Frost,” she says, speaking like she knows his wolf on a personal level, and I bet she does. She’s the one who should’ve been his mate, she is his mate. Ariella Finely is his chosen, and I’m the outcast, the one who should have never returned here no matter what.
“I don’t care,” Killian sneers, his voice cold.
I try to speak again, but I find myself gasping for air, whimpering and clutching what’s left of my heart from the crashing pain.
“You are our Alpha, rejecting a matebond this strong could kill you, think about it, think about Valerie.”
“Please take it back, Alpha Killian,” one of my sisters begs, Ravenna, I assume because Soraya would never beg for anything. “She’s in pain.”
Killian hisses, “Even her bond is venomous like her.”
He’s right, it feels like so.
I’m dying, I’m fading right before him, and he doesn’t care, I’m not his mate, I’m just a stranger now, the sixteen years we spent together are buried with his sister.
“Reverse it, Killian,” Ariella demands, her voice panicked. “It’s the only way.”
“I am not going to accept her as my mate,” he says, adamant on letting me die. “She doesn't deserve to be my Luna, she can not sit on the same throne my mother sat on. She can’t rule over the people my mother couldn’t because her father killed her.”
My father did what? No, my father has never killed anyone, he prefers war tactics to actually being on the battlefield. “You have to accept her, Kill. Think of the pack, please Killian.”
“Get up,” I hear him say. In his true adoring boyfriend fashion, he can’t say no to her, the moment she asks, it’s done. If she asked him to behead me now like he did my father, he wouldn’t hesitate.
“She can't, she’s hurt,” Ravenna says. “Please reverse it.”
“You will not live as my Luna, I can’t have a murderous runt for a Luna.” he spits, “You disgust me, the blood in your veins infuriates me, and you best die a natural death soon because you will have no rights over this pack beyond what I hand you.” He says.
“I, Alpha Killian Xavros, accept you Raelynn Alya Penrose as my mate.” He says through gritted teeth, his tone nothing short of angry and vile.
The ache in my chest instantly dulls, but the lingering fragments are enough to knock me unconscious
