CASE LAY ON the bed in her room in Will’s tower, wide awake and still dressed. Beside her in the dark lay Fader, also in his street clothes, but now fast asleep and snoring softly. That familiar sound should have been comforting. It should have been the lullaby sending her to sleep. Her brother was back. They were together again. But to her growing horror, she was finding little comfort in Fader’s return. Something was wrong with him. She didn’t know what, but she knew her brother. And Fader wasn’t acting like Fader. She reminded herself she had no idea what Marell and Morrigan had done to him. Was that all this was? He’d been living a nightmare and needed time to recover? Yes, that must be it. She had to be patient and understanding. She’d help him. Help him heal. Help him become Fader
