KAEL’S POV.
“What you wanted to show me is this? A stream?” Ilyana asked, scoffing lightly as she slowly walked to the edge and looked down.
We were deep in the forest, standing on a rock that dropped into a stream below, only reachable by jumping. Ilyana was different now, and my wolf gnawed restlessly inside of me. She spoke more freely now, met my gaze without hesitation, even hissed at me in the car earlier, and I found myself wanting more of it, more of her in ways I shouldn’t.
“It’s not just any stream. It’s a safe haven,” I replied, watching as she rolled her eyes, and I realized I could drown just watching her do that.
“Do you know how to swim?”
“Swim?” Her eyes widened as she turned to me, disbelief flashing across her face. “Like in that water?”
