The Vampires Pet

Chapter 15: The attack

They smiled at him as if it was funny he thought he could best them. One of them launched herself at Amdis her fangs bared and at first, I was confused why he held his arm out in front, it was like a block, but it was obvious she would bite down on it, and she did, as hard as she could, he didn’t look fazed, and then I saw her eyes widen in terror, and she let go of his arm, but it was too late.

His blood was in her mouth and she held her throat and began choking violently, I had to close my eyes when I saw her lips burn and blister, her mouth looked like it was melting inside as his blood burned her.

She fell to the floor temporarily unconscious, I peeked through my fingers and watched as he didn’t even hesitate to crush her head with his boot, even then, I knew she still wouldn’t be dead.

The other two vampires faltered, but they didn’t back down. They both ran towards him, and he withdrew a sword from behind his back, I have no idea how he hid it, maybe his shadow gift? Because I hadn’t seen it before, he used it expertly slashing out towards them, but they were incredibly fast, he blocked their attacks and moved so gracefully it was almost like a dance, the blonde one managed to claw the side of his face, but he didn’t falter.

I knew she also had the gift to cause pain, not physical pain but emotional and I had found that worse but for some reason when she tried to use it on him, it had no effect, just how old was Amdis? He dressed like a young vampire, even his job wasn’t one that any ancient old vampire would do, but I knew only the really old ones were immune to other vampires gifts, the older they got, the less effective other vampires powers were on them.

While she tried to torment him mentally, the other female used the distraction to get to me, she ran towards me, but a single blast rang out, and she dropped to the floor staring empty eyed at me, she wasn’t truly dead, though. Clearly Amdis was fed up with the fight, and he used the gun in his hand to aim towards the blonde, who tried to dodge it and did the first two times, but he got her square between the eyes the third time, and she dropped down to the floor.

Amdis rushed over to me and bent down to meet my eyes. “Are you ok, little one?”

I nodded and still in some shock, muttered, “don’t call me little one, I’m not a kid.”

Smiling, he held his hand out to me and helped me to my feet. Screw it, I was still scared and feeling traumatised so I hugged Amdis burying my face in his chest. He kept the hand holding the gun down by his side and used the other one to wrap his arm around me, stroking me reassuringly. “It’s ok, I’ve got you my pet.”

He held me for a while, and then he pulled back to look down at me, I was still shaking, and he softly said, “look at me.”

When I didn’t move, he stroked my hair softly and said, “look at me sweetie.” He had never called me that before, and I found myself looking up into his eyes.

“It’s ok, I will not let any harm come to you, let’s sit you in your room while I clean up this mess, and then we will figure out what to do next, ok?”

I just stared at him, and he said, “ok? My little pet.”

I nodded slowly, and he gently led me to my room. Sitting me on the bed he lightly kissed my forehead and shut the door.

He was scary good at cleaning up crime scenes, I didn’t even so much as hear him move outside.

It was about two hours when he finally knocked on the door and when I opened it, there was no trace of anything, it’s like nothing had ever happened.

“You clean scary well,” I said.

“One needs to in my line of work.”

“So what now?” I asked.

“I am not sure how comfortable you will be, but I thought it might be a good idea to stay with Michelle, she is your friend and can help me keep an eye on you and make sure you don’t go sneaking out, and also her home is her own, so no vampires can enter.”

“What if they send more wereanimals?”

“I will deal with them.”

“I don’t want to put her in danger.”

He nodded and said, “I tried explaining that myself, but she is extremely stubborn and wouldn’t hear a word of it and honestly, I’m out of options right now, another hotel just means any supernatural can enter.”

I nodded and said, “ok, so what happens when you’re done guarding me? What if they are still after me?”

He grew uncomfortable but said, “you are a little bit different now, you are my pet, and therefore it is my duty to protect you at all costs even outside of the job.”

“What if I wasn’t, would you just leave me to it?”

He looked at my face and answered, “no, I would make sure the threat is dealt with. It looks like Zedric has no intention of giving up on you, so my next plan is to have Kane come over and watch you with Michelle while I go and hunt them all down.”

“You can’t go alone!”

“Why not?”

“It’s too dangerous! Zedric is old.”

“I’m older.”

I looked at him and asked curiously, “how old are you?”

“I am almost four thousand years old.”

“Holy crap!” I was stunned, and he looked amused by my reaction.

My eyes grew wider, and I said, “wait, that means you are a master vampire, you must own a city or a country at that age!”

“I have my own home away from cities.”

“Why are you even working? Especially in this kind of job? Most master vampires are all overly boring, posh and make everyone do everything for them pretty much, they live royal lives.”

He laughed softly and said, “I am not most vampires, I have done it all, I grew bored and heard of this job and so far, it has kept me very entertained.”

I looked at him more curiously and said, “I’ve never met a vampire that uses guns before.”

He smirked, and even his smirk was hot.

“What’s so funny?” I asked.

He shrugged gracefully and replied, “most vampires fear me, they fear my gifts, but they also find my fighting methods extremely unorthodox, I simply work with what I have, my ego is not so big that I would turn down using guns if it means saving a life, I will do whatever it takes to protect my clients.”

“Zedric doesn’t seem to care.”

“Zedric has gone slightly insane, no vampire would do the things he did to you if they were of sane mind, especially their own pet.”

I nodded, mulling over everything he had shared with me, he jolted me from my thoughts and said, “come on, we should leave now before more trouble finds us, I want you somewhere safe.”

We packed our stuff and checked out of the hotel. The male receptionist flirted with Amdis, I didn’t know whether Amdis was attracted to men or not, but he politely flirted back and then we left. I don’t know how it was possible to flirt politely, but he did it.

We got into the car, or rather I did and Amdis put my belt on, I would have argued I could do it myself, but I was still getting over everything that had happened tonight.

He drove us back to wales, it was late in the night so he had his lights on and turned on the window wipers when it started to rain.

I didn’t know we had arrived at Michelle’s until Admis gently shook me awake. “Let’s get you inside so you can rest.”

I was so cold, I only had my thin raincoat and Amdis gently put his trench coat around my shoulders. He led me to Michelle’s door, and she answered when we knocked, when she saw me, I could tell she wanted to hug me but was unsure if she could, therapy had been helping me a lot, so I hugged her, and she hugged me back, I knew she was a good and kind person, she would never hurt me.

She tugged me inside while Amdis went and got our bags, and she sat me down on the sofa.

“Are you ok?” She asked.

“Yes, Amdis fights like some superhero in a movie.”

She laughed and said, “he damn well should with the amount I paid for him.”

“I’ll pay you back when I get a job.”

“Don’t be silly, I paid to save your life, I knew you were out there somewhere.”

“Maybe Amdis should pay you back, seeing as you’re like his girlfriend or something now.”

She laughed and said, “he pays me back with great s**x and company.”

I blushed when she said that, Michelle had always been confident talking about her s**x life.

Amdis came in, and she went over and kissed him on the lips. It was weird seeing him be affectionate with someone, I knew he showed me some affection, like stroking my hair sometimes or holding me while I cried, but that wasn’t the same as seeing him show someone real genuine affection because he wanted to and not because he needed to, romantic affection too.

He kissed her back lingeringly on the lips, but he was polite with me there and didn’t deepen the kiss to tongues, thank god.

I watched him smile at Michelle in a way he never had me, it was a tender and soft smile, and I tried to ignore the ache in my heart watching them. Amdis came over to me and said to Michelle, “do you mind if I take her to bed, she is exhausted.”

“Of course, my spare room is to the left.”

He kissed her cheek and taking my bag, said, “come on, lets settle you in.”

“I’m not a kid, I can settle myself in.”

“Fair enough, but I would also like to check everything is safe in your room.”

Huffing, I got up and followed him up the stairs and waved a sleepy goodnight to Michelle.

Once he was sure everything was safe and secure, he closed the blinds and said, “ok, get in to bed.”

I didn’t bother arguing, I was too tired and just climbed into the soft lilac covers. He sat on the edge of the bed and looked down at me. “Are you feeling ok? Those female vampires, were they the ones who…used you?”

I nodded, and he gently stroked a strand of my hair from my face. “I am sorry you had to see them again, but trust that I killed them and disposed of their body parts thoroughly, they won’t be coming back.”

I nodded, and he got up and turned the light off.

I fell asleep, but after the events of the night it was no surprise I had a night terror and I woke screaming in fear. Amdis came running in and when he saw I was safe, and it was just a bad dream he relaxed. “Are you ok?”

I shook my head no, and he asked, “would you like me to stay with you?”

I nodded, and he sat on the bed beside me as usual with his legs across the bed and his back against the headboard. He stroked my hair and played with it until I relaxed and finally fell back to sleep, from the first night he had stayed with me, he had figured out pretty fast that playing with my hair relaxed me and helped me fall back into a peaceful sleep.
