Chapter 5: Count with me

1871 Words
About three weeks went by, and I had grown used to Amdis being here with me, he didn’t like leaving me alone, so he had politely cancelled on Michelle, they were finally meant to be meeting today instead, which was a Saturday still, and although I knew I liked Amdis I also knew he wasn’t mine to keep away from all other females, so when he was hesitating about leaving me I said, “go and enjoy yourself, everything has been fine so far, and I’m sure tonight will be no different.” “But—” “But nothing Amdis, go, you need to feed too, and you can’t starve yourself.” “I can survive up to two months without blood.” “I’m sure you can, but I don’t want you hungry around me, it must affect your self control, it must weaken you too surely?” He sighed and nodded, “yes, you are correct, fine, I shall go, but not until I’ve seen you lock every window and door in this house and I want to hear you lock the front door behind me.” “Ok, but won’t another supernatural like a werewolf be able to simply break the doors down?” He pulled his phone out, and I asked, “what are you doing?” “I’m cancelling, it’s not worth the risk.” I tried to snatch the phone from his hand, but his reflex skills were incredible, and he was faster than a snake springing for its prey. “Go, please go, Amdis, I will be fine.” He was quiet for a moment, and then he said, “I know a werelion he is a friend of mine and works the same job as me, he isn’t currently guarding anyone, so I will give him a call to watch you.” He didn’t wait for an answer, he dialled this werelions number and called him. When he hung up, he said, “Kane is on his way.” “I don’t want a stranger being here,” I replied, I didn’t care if it sounded sulky. “He is a good man and very good at his job, I trust him more than anyone else to take care of you.” “Is he friendlier than you?” I replied sarcastically. He hesitated and then answered, “no, he is what I would describe as a sociopath, but he takes his job as seriously as I do.” “Great, you’re leaving me with a psycho, that’s way more safe than me being alone in my own home.” “Your sarcasm won’t make me change my mind, you will be safe with him.” I flopped down on to the sofa dramatically and tried not to scowl when I saw the slight smirk on his face to my response. It was less than twenty minutes when Kane showed up. I hadn’t seen many wereanimals but looking at him, I assumed they were almost as unnaturally attractive as vampires. He had golden blonde hair that was the same colour as a lion’s fur, it was messy and tousled and honestly, his jawline was almost as lovely as Amdis’ jawline. He had a nice small nose, but it was slightly crooked as if it had been broken a few times, he had a scar on his bottom lip too, but other than that, his lips were nice and full, and he had brown eyes with flecks of red and gold running through. Amdis was around six foot four and Kane looked like he was maybe an inch or two taller, he was as well built and muscular as Amdis and wore black trousers, black shoes and a black muscle fit t-shirt. Amdis opened the door to him and welcomed him in. He stepped through the door and was tall enough he had to bend a little to get through, I was only five foot five next to these giants. Amdis walked over to me with Kane following behind and said, “this is Miss Hansley, please take good care of her while I am gone, I shouldn’t be back too late.” Kane nodded at me as a form of acknowledgment and turned to Amdis, “I will, but you owe me.” “Fair enough,” Amdis replied and then looking to me, he bowed and bid me a good evening and left. I felt so awkward and nervous with Kane standing there silently looking at me, no, not just looking, he was staring at me intensely. “Um, would you like a drink or anything?” I asked shyly. “No.” Pfft, rude. I went up to my room but stopped halfway up the stairs when I realised Kane was following me. “What are you doing?” I asked. “I’m guarding you.” “I will only be in my room.” “I’m not leaving you alone, that’s not how I work.” Sighing, I stomped back down the stairs, and he said, “do you always act this childish?” “I’m not childish!” I snapped. His smirk let me know just how childish that response sounded. Sighing, I pushed past him and ended up giving myself a panic attack. I had gotten used to small, simple contact with Amdis, but I was still terrified of physical touch by anyone else. I couldn’t breathe, and my eyes started to water, I really thought I was going to die and started hyperventilating. Kane didn’t mock me or anything, he seemed to have that vibe, so I was expecting it, but he was nothing but serious and professional. He gently made me sit down on the stairs, and I have no idea how, but he just seemed to know it was the contact that had set me off. He didn’t try to touch me, he placed his hands either side of me, so he was still close enough to provide me comfort without physically touching. “I’m not going to hurt you, you are safe, take deep slow breaths, I know you want to do anything but that but just trust me, ok.” He held up his hands and said, “focus on my fingers and count down with me, alright?” I tried to nod, but my panic and fear were too great. He put one finger down, and I shakily whispered, “one.” “Good girl, keep going.” He put another down and I counted down slowly until I reached ten, and I found my breathing was calm again, and my panic had slowly subsided. He was so close to me, our faces were inches apart as he looked into my eyes. “Are you ok?” I nodded, and for reasons I could not explain, I leaned forward and kissed him. I pulled back, so embarrassed and mumbled, “I’m so sorry.” “It’s ok, sometimes we look for comfort any way we can.” I looked back to meet his eyes, he hadn’t moved away, so I leaned in and kissed him again. I had always been extremely shy when it came to boys, I had never had s*x, I had kissed maybe two guys in my life, but that was it, I think the fear of my panic attack outweighed my fear of rejection from a beautiful man and that’s why I was able to make myself act this forward. Amdis had said Kane was a sociopath, but he seemed rather nice to me. He kissed me back for a while and then kissed his way lightly down my neck, providing pleasure I had never experienced before. He came back up and kissed my lips, sliding his tongue in my mouth, but something strange happened, the more turned on I felt the more I felt this strange feeling like I was burning on the inside and my skin felt like it was being pricked by a thousand needles. When he touched my b.reast over my top, that pain intensified, and I yelped pulling back from him. “What’s wrong?” He murmured. “I don’t know, it feels nice but the more I feel good the more pain I’m feeling, it’s so strange I don’t understand.” He pulled away from me and asked, “what does the pain feel like?” “I feel like I’m on fire inside and my skin is being pricked by thousands of needles.” He gave a nod and stood up. “You belong to a vampire.” When I frowned at him, he explained, “becoming a vampire’s pet means you can’t be intimate with another, the bond will prevent you from doing so, becoming a vampire’s pet means they own you in every way.” “Why do people choose that without a guarantee the vampire will ever love them romantically?” I asked. He shrugged and snorted, “because they’re f.ucking i.diots who think with their d.icks and v.aginas instead of their head.” “That’s a bit mean,” I said. He shrugged, “I’m just stating the truth.” “Do you often sleep with your clients?” I asked curiously. “No, sometimes if they need the comfort, but usually not.” “Does Amdis?” He looked at me like he knew why I was asking and smirked, “no, don’t worry, he is very serious and professional when it comes to his job.” I wasn’t sure if I was relieved or disappointed about that, relieved he didn’t sleep with all the women he protected and disappointed that meant he wouldn’t touch me either. I sat on the sofa, and he sat on the other side away from me. It felt a little awkward now, so I turned the tv on to fill the silence. I noticed although Kane sat watching the tv his body never relaxed, he was alert and still aware of his surroundings the whole time. It was around eleven at night when Amdis returned, Michelle must have let him feed on her because I noticed he had more colour in his cheeks and he had a light olive skin tone. When vampires didn’t feed it affected their skin tone too, they became more pale like an actual corpse or perhaps more like marble because they were too pretty to look like a corpse. Clearly she had given him more than just her blood, they clearly had spent time in bed together because although he still looked cold and unreadable, his energy felt a little lighter, he had a little extra spring in his step or something. I tried not to grumble in front of the men as Kane stood up, and they said their goodbyes. At the door, Amdis asked him, “were there any problems?” Kane answered, “not danger wise, but she did have a panic attack, I helped calm her down, but if it happens again the countdown method seemed to work for her.” Amdis gave a nod. “Thank you, my friend. Goodnight.” “Night,” Kane replied and then left.
