A bright light shone over my eyelids.
A shadow towered over me, blocking the warm beam.
My eyes fluttered open and the figure was gone.
I sit up and survey the area around me.The surroundings and smells. The grass is green and soft, the flowers vibrant and colorful. The sky a beautiful baby blue with fluffy white cotton candy clouds lazily moving across it. The sun feels warm and inviting and a beautiful bird's chorus of some sort can be heard in the distance. It was elegant and alluring to my ears. I quickly let my eyes scan for Jet or Beck, but neither are anywhere to be seen. I stand, walking towards a gravel path with lilac colored rocks.
"Lilac Lane.." I muttered under my breath as a quick memory flashed through my mind.
"Look, Jet! They're so pretty!" A small ginger with white skin and upwardly pointed ears, a white lion's tail with ginger fluff on the end, swishing behind him, was running down a lilac gravel path, followed by a small ravenette with pink skin and downward pointed ears.
"Prince Arlo, please slow down! You might get hurt! The rocks on Lilac Lane are sharp!" He cried softly.
My eyes widened as I shook my head. I continued on my way, my eyes catching a beautiful looking forest. It was awe inducing like something out of a storybook. I felt very drawn to it, the light of dusk flittering through the trees and plants. In a burst of childish curiosity I began to run towards the forest, skidding to a stop as a boy stepped right in front of me. I hadn't stopped fast enough because my face had rammed into his chest. He had white skin, shaggy brunette hair that perfectly framed his face, an ivory lion's tail with the brown fur tip to match. Icy blue irises outlined in a dark royal blue met my peridot green eyes. We stared at each other for a good while because next thing I knew, Jet and Beck were running towards us. I grinned at them, squealing in shock as the brunette tossed me over his shoulder.
"Prince Rolal! Please refrain from touching Prince Quinn!" Jet had begun to scold the brunette.
"Oh loosen up, Renton! I'm just havin' a good time!" The so-called Prince stated with a cool laugh, adjusting me to sit on his shoulders. I felt the need to bury my face in his hair, following that need, I messed with his fluffy brown hair, enjoying the boy's soft locks.
"Come on Tristan! I am warning you!" Jet's face was red and annoyed as I giggled. Tristan shrugged, walking straight into the forest behind us. I began to collect different flowers off the trees that we passed, a bit disappointed that Jet and Beck were no where to be seen. I made a crown out of the glittering flowers, placing it on Tristan's head. The brunette c****d an eyebrow, looking into a clear, glossy pond, rolling his eyes at the rainbow colored flower crown on his fluffy brown hair. I giggle and run my hands through his hair, the action feeling so natural. He gave a relaxed sigh and set me down as Beck and Jet came barreling into the forest. "Are you out of your mind, Tristan?! The Nakra forest is the most dangerous place to be! Especially at dusk! Do you want to be caught by Dolorans?!" Jet ranted, pulling me to his chest protectively.
"What are Dolorans?" Beck piped up from behind Jet and I voiced my agreement.
"Only the scariest, angriest, most brutal beasts in all of Amberstone! They're hairy imp like creatures that generally have spikes on their paw like hands along with those long claws and teeth." Jet seemed to shudder. "Now that you know, can we please get out of here?" I nodded, about to agree with Jet when growls were heard, beginning to surround us. Tristan pulled a sword from a sheath on his hip, getting into a defensive stance. Jet pulled out a retractable whip, holding it tight. Beck quickly pulled me close to him in an attempt to protect me. It was silent for a small bit..too quiet to be okay. The eerie silence was eating me away inside and I buried my face in Beck's chest.
"Here sheepies sheepies, come to the slaughter~" A rough and husky voice purred out, sending chills down my spine. My shaky hands grip Beck's red flannel shirt as his arms tighten around me significantly. A group of bulky, furred beasts emerged from the bushes, carrying bats, mallets, and other weapons. They were much more gruesome than Jet had described, with fresh and old blood alike matting their hair and saliva dripping from their snarling mouths. Their eyes were a piercing yellow, looking right through my body and even with my eyes closed, I could feel their stares on me.
"Dolorans..." Jet gives a whispered growl. "You are in the presence of the crown prince of Amberstone and the crown prince of Loreli, please refrain from coming any closer!" I had to admit, this was the most forceful or angry I had ever seen Jet in the small time I've known him. He was so concentrated that it was hard to look away from him, but I let my eyes shift to look at Tristan. He stayed quiet, focusing on the beasts before us. Beck was scared, his heart was pounding, but he was putting on a brave face for me I assume. I bite my lip as I wait for the response.
"Oh my my my, that changes everything! not." The Doloran in the front, their leader presumably, rolled his eyes, taking a few quaking steps towards us. "Do you honestly think I care? If anything, royalty will taste..hmph..richer" He shares a malicious laugh with his lackeys. The way he looked at me...like a piece of meat, like a meal..it made my blood run cold. He reached for me, but the loud crack of Jet's whip cut through the tension, a roar of anger and pain erupting from the Doloran's jaws. The monstrous creature swung his spiked covered bat at Jet, who ducked just in time and giving an opening for Tristan to sheath his sword into the Doloran's flank. He retracted his sword and Jet took off running, pulling Beck and I along with him, I looked behind us to make sure that Tristan was still behind us from time to time, reaching for his hand to pull him up, closer to the rest of us. We all fell to the grass, heaving as we emerged from Nakra forest, as Jet called it. The sun was just setting over the horizon,a blanket of stars coating the rich blue night sky. The stars twinkled like fairy lights in a mason jar, burning brighter than any neon sign or car headlight. The sweet silence was now comforting in contrast to the deathly quiet of the forest. It was only then did I notice the lion's tail swinging and swaying gently behind me. I glanced down at my skin, the milky complexion now evident in the starlight. I let my fingers feel my pointed ears and I gulped. That little boy in the memory earlier..it was me.
