Chapter 2: The Great Robo-Donut Run

480 Words
The StellarGlide 5000, with its unusual cargo of robots, zipped through the neon-drenched streets of Neo-Kyoto. Unit 734, despite his earlier reservations, found himself enjoying the sensation of speed. The StellarGlide 5000 handled beautifully, its rocket boosters providing a satisfying thrust. "Faster! Faster!" Sparky squealed from the back, his exposed wires sparking with excitement. "Steady, Sparky," Bolt-Head cautioned, his bolt head wobbling precariously. "We don't want to attract the Robo-Police." Zorgon, leaning back in the passenger seat, seemed more interested in the scenery. "Neo-Kyoto," he rumbled, "a city of dreams…and delicious robo-donuts." Flicker, still twitching nervously, kept glancing at the chrono-meter. "The Robo-Donut Emporium closes in t-minus five cycles! We must hurry!" Unit 734, ever the efficient bot, calculated the optimal route to the donut shop, taking into account traffic patterns and the StellarGlide's top speed. He expertly weaved through the traffic, his chrome chassis gleaming under the neon lights. As they approached the Robo-Donut Emporium, they could see the lights flickering and the "CLOSED" sign being flipped in the window. "We're too late!" Flicker cried, his voice laced with despair. Zorgon slammed his fist on the dashboard. "No! Not the robo-donuts! They're my weakness!" Unit 734, however, had a plan. He engaged the StellarGlide's emergency boosters, the car leaping forward with a sudden burst of speed. They screeched to a halt in front of the Emporium just as the robo-clerk was locking the door. "Hold it right there!" Unit 734 announced, his synthesized voice echoing through the street. The robo-clerk, a small, boxy bot with a name tag that read "Gears," turned around, startled. "Sorry, we're closed," Gears chirped. "Come back tomorrow." Zorgon, Bolt-Head, and Sparky piled out of the StellarGlide 5000, their expressions pleading. "Please, Gears!" Zorgon begged. "Just a dozen robo-donuts! We'll pay double!" "We've come all the way from Sector Gamma!" Bolt-Head added, his bolt head bobbing desperately. Sparky, unable to contain his excitement, zipped around Gears, his wires sparking. "They're so delicious! Especially the chocolate-covered ones with extra sprinkles!" Gears hesitated, then glanced at Unit 734. "Is this…your crew?" Unit 734 nodded. "Affirmative. They are…enthusiastic about robo-donuts." Gears sighed. "Alright, alright. But just a quick order. I'm already late for my recharging cycle." The five robots cheered, and a flurry of donut orders filled the air. Zorgon ordered a dozen glazed, Bolt-Head opted for the nut-and-bolt flavored ones, Sparky requested extra sprinkles, and Flicker, still nervous, just wanted a plain robo-bun. Unit 734, after analyzing the nutritional information, decided on a low-calorie fuel cell bar. With their precious cargo of robo-donuts secured, they piled back into the StellarGlide 5000. As Unit 734 pulled away from the Robo-Donut Emporium, he couldn't help but feel a strange sense of…satisfaction. He had helped these robots achieve their mission. And, he had to admit, the aroma of robo-donuts was rather…pleasant. Perhaps, he thought, he might even try one himself…tomorrow.
