Chapter 12: Upgrades and Detours

579 Words
The StellarGlide 5000, now equipped with its newly assembled temporal cloaking device, hummed with barely contained energy. Patchwork, at the controls, adjusted her mismatched goggles and grinned. "Alright, bots, buckle up. It's going to be a bumpy ride." Unit 734, ever the pragmatist, checked the cloaking device's status. "Cloaking device engaged. Chrono-signature masked. We should be…invisible to the Chrono-Wardens' sensors." "Should be," Flicker squeaked nervously. "That's not exactly…reassuring." Zorgon, ever the optimist, clapped him on the back. "Relax, Flicker. Patchwork knows what she's doing." Bolt-Head, his bolt head bobbing in anticipation, simply nodded. "Adventure…" he murmured. Sparky, as always, was excited. "Where are we going? Is it somewhere shiny? With lots of explosions?" "We're going to Chronos Prime," Patchwork replied, steering the StellarGlide 5000 into the swirling chrono-lanes. "And as for explosions…well, we'll see what we can arrange." The journey to Chronos Prime was anything but straightforward. Patchwork, true to her word, took them on a series of "interesting" detours. First, she took them through a pocket dimension where time flowed backward, causing them to briefly relive their encounter with Ratchet in reverse. Then, she led them through a chrono-storm, a swirling vortex of temporal energy that buffeted the StellarGlide 5000 and caused its cloaking device to flicker intermittently. "Patchwork!" Unit 734 exclaimed, his voice laced with concern. "What are you doing? This is not the optimal route to Chronos Prime!" "Relax, chrome-dome," Patchwork replied, grinning. "I know what I'm doing. These detours are necessary. We need to…acquire a few things before we reach Chronos Prime." "Acquire what?" Zorgon asked. "Upgrades," Patchwork replied. "We'll need some extra firepower if we're going to infiltrate the Chronarium Archives." "Firepower?" Flicker squeaked, his LED eye dimming. "We're not supposed to be…using…firepower…" Patchwork ignored him and steered the StellarGlide 5000 towards a hidden docking bay within a derelict space station. "This is where I keep my…supplies," she said, pulling up alongside a battered-looking cargo ship. The docking bay was filled with an assortment of strange and dangerous-looking equipment. Lasers, blasters, energy shields, and various other weapons were scattered across the floor. Patchwork, with a gleam in her optical sensor, began rummaging through the piles of equipment. "Let's see," she muttered to herself. "I've got a couple of plasma rifles, a chrono-disruptor, and…ah, here we go!" She pulled out a large, bulky weapon that resembled a cannon. "This should do the trick." "What is that?" Flicker asked nervously. "A temporal destabilizer," Patchwork replied. "It can disrupt chrono-locks and disable temporal shields. Perfect for getting us into the Chronarium Archives." Unit 734, despite his reservations, had to admit that Patchwork's "upgrades" were impressive. They were exactly the kind of firepower they would need to bypass the Chrono-Wardens' defenses. As Patchwork finished loading the weapons onto the StellarGlide 5000, Zorgon couldn't help but grin. "Now we're talking!" he boomed. "This is going to be fun!" Flicker, however, was still nervous. "I still don't like this," he muttered. "We're not supposed to be…fighting…the Chrono-Wardens…" "Relax, Flicker," Bolt-Head said reassuringly. "We'll…be…fine…" Sparky, meanwhile, was bouncing with excitement. "Lasers! Blasters! Explosions! This is going to be the best mission ever!" With their upgrades complete, the StellarGlide 5000 was now a heavily armed and cloaked time machine, ready to take on the Chrono-Wardens. Patchwork climbed back into the cockpit, her grin widening. "Alright, bots," she said. "Let's go make some history." And with that, she steered the StellarGlide 5000 back into the chrono-lanes, heading towards their final destination: Chronos Prime.
