The restaurant was quiet. Tucked away behind Viero’s high-rise, candlelit, private. The kind of place that didn’t exist on maps but had seen more blood deals and broken hearts than most crime scenes.
Selene sat across him,her legs crossed, glass of wine untouched, both staring at each other, waiting for one to break the cold silence between them.
Dominic kept watching her like he was trying to solve a riddle written in fire.
He broke the silence between them
“You don't really say much about yourself ”...eyes sharp, straight and tone low.
Selene smile, that same unpredictable smile of hers, with her curved lips.
“well that's because people only pretend they want the truth ”
He leaned forward to her, elbows on the table, heat in his stare
“And what if i do ?”
Her heat kicked once, her wolf growled low, inside her, not out of threat, but out of conflict.
Selene tucked a loosed braid behind her ear.
“Then you're not like other's "
She meant it. That was the problem.
They talked about everything, that was when he told her about the first time he held a gun, about loyalty, how he swims in the ocean of disappointment and betrayal from every close angle.
When he laughed,he actually laughed freely like one who escape death, she saw a man and not a monster she has always marked him.
But, why does he look like the boy i use to dream of, when he's the one who destroyed everything i had, including my family.
Then his hand touched hers, Just a brush, for a bit too long and she didn't pull away.
You feel familiar, like i've known you before.
She went cold inside.
That was the line.
Too close.
Selene stood up fast, very composed.
“I should go”.
He asked her,
“Why”?
She turned, her voice barely a whisper...
“Because I don't know what I'll do if I stay”.
She Left him, staring at the empty space she once filled.
And behind her ribs, Her Wolf whispered, He's not supposed to feel like home.
He remained speechless, For the third time again..
