The Redmoon Rises

728 Words
The Red Moon Rises Ravencroft held its breath. The once-quiet town simmered beneath a heavy, unnatural heat as the red moon clawed its way into the sky. Clouds swirled like smoke, stained with crimson light. The church bell tolled—only once—before the silence fell like a curse. In the woods, the Forgotten Pack moved like shadows. Peter, now in full control of his shifting, led them. His stride was sure, his senses flaring. Beside him, Melinda wore the robes of her ancestral line, etched with rose thorns, her hands glowing faintly with magic. They were not just lovers now. They were leaders. Bonded by fate, driven by love, and forged in pain. Alaric moved to Peter’s side. “The Thorn Seal is deep within the cathedral crypt. Cosmos will begin the ritual at midnight.” Peter nodded. “Then we finish it before it begins.” They split into three groups—one to sabotage the Seal, one to distract the sentries, and Peter and Melinda at the heart of the assault. As they crept closer to the cathedral, Ravencroft’s streets felt empty. Too quiet. The kind of quiet before blood is spilled. Inside the cathedral, Cosmos stood at the center of a pentagram carved into the floor. The Thorn Seal hovered before him, spinning and humming with a low, guttural tone. His robe of blackened wolfskin trailed behind him, soaked in ancient blood. His eyes glowed with madness. All around him, wolves bowed in forced reverence. Magic thickened the air, turning breath to vapor. Cosmos raised his hands. “Tonight, I unmake fate.” He turned to the altar behind him—where two thrones stood. One gold. One crimson. “Moon and Rose were always doomed,” he spat. “I will end the curse by consuming their bond.” --- Peter kicked in the cathedral doors, his roar shaking the stone. Wolves turned—some in confusion, some in fear. “Cosmos!” Peter bellowed. From the dais, Cosmos smirked. “Ah, the pup returns. You wear Marcus’s skin well.” Peter stepped forward, Melinda at his side. “You’re wrong about the curse. It was never meant to be broken. It was meant to be healed.” Cosmos laughed. “Healed? Through love?” He spat the word like venom. “Love is a chain, Peter. And I’ve broken mine.” Peter’s voice was cold. “No, Cosmos. You were just too weak to carry it.” With a roar, Cosmos threw back his cloak and transformed—not into a normal wolf, but something twisted. His form elongated, fur bristling like blades, eyes glowing with red fire. The Thorn Seal fused into his chest, crackling with stolen magic. The battle exploded. Wolves clashed tooth and claw. Alaric led the charge, holding the western flank. Mira darted between shadows, cutting down Cosmos’s loyalists. Melinda faced off against a warlock wolf, her spells of rosefire lighting up the cathedral walls. Peter met Cosmos head-on. Fang against fang. Claw against claw. They slammed into each other, crashing through pews, columns, and finally out into the moonlight. The red moon bathed them both, painting their snarls in bloodlight. “You can’t stop fate,” Cosmos growled, pressing Peter to the ground. Peter grimaced. “No. But I can rewrite it.” With a howl, he surged forward, driving his claws into Cosmos’s chest—right into the Thorn Seal. Cosmos screamed. Melinda appeared behind him, her hands glowing with ancient rose light. She pressed her palms to the Seal, her voice steady as she chanted words passed through her bloodline. “By thorn and root, by blood and bond—break!” The Seal pulsed—once, twice—then shattered into ash. Cosmos let out a cry that echoed into the trees. And fell silent. --- As dawn broke, the red hue faded from the sky. The cathedral lay in ruins, but Ravencroft stood free. Alaric limped to Peter’s side. “It’s done.” Melinda knelt beside him, touching Peter’s face. “You’re still here.” “I’m not going anywhere,” he whispered, exhausted but alive. Wolves began to gather, their eyes filled not with fear—but with hope. And Peter, the boy who once hid in shadows, stood in the morning light—his hand in Melinda’s, his heart full.
