LIR WOKE THE next morning and called his assistant manager, Rusty Salisbury, and told him to cover the day shift. He didn’t want to risk going to work and having something else happen to the twins while he was thirty to forty-five minutes away. As it was, last night they were only five minutes away, and he still wasn’t home in time. It sucked being a single father. Aiden was thirteen and pitched in where he could, making sure everyone knew what a bother it was for him to help, and sweet little Fionna did her best, but they were still kids. The truth was, they shouldn’t have had to do any of it. They had enough problems simply growing up and being children.
