Arden's :
Running. My legs burn with every step, but I can’t stop. I don’t dare look back. The night swallows me whole, the cold air biting through my torn clothes. Fear sits like a heavy weight in my chest, driving me forward. If they catch me, there will be no mercy.
I had known for weeks that leaving was my only option, but I wasn’t ready. Not until tonight. Not until the last hit came harder than before. Not until I saw the darkness in his eyes, telling me I was disposable. My secret was becoming harder to hide. If they found out… I shudder at the thought.
I push myself deeper into the woods, branches whipping at my skin. No wolf to help me, no pack to protect me. Just me. Arden, the wolf-less Omega, the one everyone thought was broken. But I wasn’t broken. Not anymore.
I’m not going back.
My breath hitches as I hear a distant howl—a warning. The pack is close. Time is running out. I need to find safety, somewhere far from here. Somewhere no one knows me.
The trees part in front of me, and I stop short, my heart pounding in my chest. A dark, imposing mansion looms on a hill, surrounded by high stone walls. It’s like a fortress, and even in my desperation, I know what this place is.
Darian Vale’s territory.
Darian Vale, Alpha of the most feared pack in the region, a man no one dares to cross. His pack is known for being ruthless, powerful, and unforgiving. Yet something draws me closer. Maybe it’s because they’d never think to look for me here. Maybe because I’ve run out of options. But my feet move on their own, carrying me toward the gates.
The air here feels heavier, more oppressive, as if the very ground beneath my feet hums with power. My chest tightens as I step over the threshold, the gate’s shadow falling over me like a warning.
I don’t get far before a growl rumbles from the shadows.
My heart leaps into my throat as a massive figure emerges—a man, his presence towering, his eyes fierce. The power radiating from him makes the hair on the back of my neck stand on end. His gaze locks onto mine, and I know immediately who he is.
Darian.
His scent hits me, raw and intoxicating, like a storm ready to break. My knees go weak, but I force myself to stand tall. He’s everything the rumors said—intimidating, fierce, and terrifying.
“What are you doing here?” His voice is low, controlled, but there’s a dangerous edge to it. I swallow hard.
“I…I need help,” I stammer, my voice barely above a whisper. The cold gnaws at me, but it’s nothing compared to the ice in his gaze.
“Help?” His eyes narrow, scanning me from head to toe as if he’s trying to decide whether I’m worth the trouble. “You’re trespassing.”
“I didn’t mean to—” My voice cracks, betraying me. The truth is, I did mean to. I had nowhere else to go. “Please. I’m running from someone.”
There’s a long silence, the tension between us thickening with each passing second. He steps closer, and I have to fight the instinct to back away. I’ve heard stories about Darian Vale, about the way he deals with trespassers, and I know this could end very badly for me.
“Who are you running from?” His tone is sharp, a command, not a question. I hesitate, my pulse racing.
I can’t tell him the truth. Not yet. If he knew what I was hiding, he might not just turn me away—he might kill me.
“I can’t say.” The words tumble out before I can stop them. His expression hardens.
“Then why should I help you?”
My throat tightens, panic flaring in my chest. I have no answer, nothing to offer him. I’m nothing here. An Omega without a wolf, weak and powerless. The silence between us feels like it stretches forever, until finally, he speaks.
“You can stay,” he says, his voice cold, “but you will work. You’ll earn your place here. And if I find out you’re lying…”
He doesn’t finish the sentence, but the threat lingers in the air. I nod, relief washing over me despite the warning in his words. I’m safe—for now.
Darian’s gaze lingers on me for a moment longer before he turns, disappearing into the night like a shadow. I let out a shaky breath, my legs threatening to give out beneath me. This is only the beginning.
I’ve escaped one hell, only to step into another.

Darian watched as the girl disappeared into the packhouse, her small frame barely more than a shadow in the night. Something about her was off. She was no ordinary Omega, despite her appearance. And that scent… there was something hidden beneath it, something familiar and dangerous.
He hadn’t meant to let her in. But the moment he saw her standing there, trembling and desperate, something in him shifted. His wolf had stirred, restless and agitated in a way he hadn’t felt in a long time. It made him wary. No one approached his territory by accident. No one survived this long without a reason.
She was hiding something. And Darian intended to find out exactly what it was.
“She won’t last long,” Aiden, his Beta, murmured as he approached. Darian nodded, but his mind was elsewhere.
“Keep an eye on her,” Darian said quietly, his eyes still on the packhouse.
Aiden nodded and disappeared into the darkness, leaving Darian alone with his thoughts. His instincts screamed that this girl was trouble.
But trouble or not, she was here. And something told him that her arrival was only the beginning.
