Nina’s POV
By the time Leo was discharged from the hospital two days later, I already felt like my entire life was balancing on something fragile enough to break at any second.
The doctors cleared him after his fever finally dropped completely, but they still wanted follow-up appointments and more testing later. I agreed to everything without arguing because after watching Leo lying weakly in that hospital bed, nothing else mattered more than keeping him healthy.
Even if fear followed us home afterward.
Julian carried Leo’s backpack upstairs while I unlocked the apartment door carefully.
The moment we entered, Leo immediately ran toward the couch with far more energy than he had in days.
“I missed home.”
I smiled softly despite everything. “You were only gone for three days.”
