The journey back to Merrihaven was a solemn one and slow going.
“I don’t understand why Celadine couldn’t stop the shifters,” said Snoop. “Wouldn’t the life stone cancel them out, because they’re dead?” The silence that followed was enough to cause Snoop to grunt loudly with frustration. “We have to talk about this. Do any of you realize what we’re facing? We haven’t had one moment’s peace the entire time. The trouble is getting harder and the list is getting longer.” His voice rose to where it bordered on a screech. “What is the life stone? Does anyone remember its limitations?” No one said a word, which only made him angrier. He roared and stomped ahead of them. “It’s too much. All of it. We’re only kids. The adults should be dealing with this stuff. Not us. Frankly, I’m sick of it.
