BOOK 1 chapter 2

{THE WATCHMAN}

Two months ago

It was dusk and the family sat down for dinner. after they had finished, they went Straight to bed. When everyone was asleep, someone sneaked into the house and went to the living room searching. Then he accidentally puts his foot on a squeaky toy that created a sharp sound. This alarmed one of them.

‘’ What was that’’ asked Jessica

When he removes his foot from the squeaky toy, it makes the same sound again.

‘’ could that be mom,( thinks) maybe it’s mom but let me check just incase, just to be sure’’ said Jessica

‘’ Jess, where are you going’’ asked Emily

‘’ i just want to get a glass of water, go back to sleep all is good. Okay!.’’ Said Jessica

‘’ okay!! Said Emily

Jessica leaves the room and walks out to go see where the sound was coming from, until she accidentally stumbled upon her twin Justin.

‘’ Jesus Christ!! You almost scared the life out of me.’’ said Justin

‘’My goodness!! What are you doing out this late? Asked Jessica

‘’ I guess I should be asking you the same’’ said Justin

‘The burglar hears voices from a direction and quickly tries to hasten with whatever he was doing. Then he accidentally hits his leg on a stool and growls and he instantly keep quite. This alerted not only Justin and Jessica, but also Susan and Jonathan.

(Justin whispers)

‘’ did you hear that’’

‘’ yes I did, it was coming from the living room’’

Said Jessica

‘’ this only means one thing’’

(Both) ‘’there’s a burglar in the house.’’

They both panicked silently. Meanwhile

‘’ who was that Jonathan.’’ asked Susan

‘’ I don’t know’’

‘’ please, let’s go check on the the kids’’

‘’ Alright, let’s go’’

Justin and Jessica heads to the living room and got to realize there was nobody there.

‘’ No one is here.’’ said Justin

‘’ yeah, then where did the voice come from, who then screamed??

Susan and Jonathan enters Jessica and Emily’s room and was stunned not to see Jessica in bed.

‘’ where is Jessica, where could she have gone to.’’ asked Susan

‘’ or did she hear the voice we heard’’ asked Jonathan

‘’ Ahh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Jessica screamed.

‘’ Jessica, Jonathan let’s go.’’ said Susan

Before they got there, the twin were on gun point by the burglar.

‘’ please, don’t harm my children, I beg of you.’’ said Susan

‘’ shut up! Said burglar

‘’ please don’t harm us, whatever you want us to do we’ll do it, just.. said Jonathan

‘’ Are you deaf, I said shut it up or else I’ll shoot you. said burglar

‘’ Go ahead and shoot us.’’ said Justin

‘’ Who is this fool, do you want to die, you want to prove you’re stubborn right!! I will blow your head off right now.’’ Said burglar

‘’ ah.. please sir, I beg you, Justin keep your mouth shut, what is wrong with you’’ said Susan

‘’ Justin, what is your problem, keep quiet. said Jonathan

‘’ As a matter of fact, all of you go down on your knees and kiss the ground now!!’’

They did so, but Justin was proving he was stubborn.

‘’ you little boy, you want to prove you’re smart right, then let me start with you I will blow this stupid brain of yours out.’’ said burglar

‘’ No please sir, I beg you in God’s name, don’t harm my son, please!!’’ Said Susan

‘’ Justin just do as he has told you, do you want to die.’’ said Jonathan

‘’ Justin just obey him for our sakes.’’ said Jessica

He goes on this knees and his face Pointed on the ground. The burglar makes the run for it.

After the burglar leaves the house, Susan checks on the kids

‘’ Justin, Jessica are you okay, are you injured.’’ Asked Susan

‘’ I’m okay mom’’ said Jessica

‘’ I’m good mom” said Justin

‘’ mommy, what is happening.’’ asked Emily

‘’ come over here my dear, all is good’’

Emily leans on her mother’s shoulder while Jonathan speaks out.

‘’ Justin what was that, what is wrong with you tell me, do you want to get yourself killed.’’

‘’ Dad, you could see he wasn’t going to do anything to us..’’ said Justin

‘’ Can you hear yourself right now, why are you so stubborn, how foolish and absurd can you be to retaliate to a burglar who was armed, What is your problem.’’

‘’ Dad, why are making a big deal out of it, it’s over now.. it doesn’t have to be like this, You could see and sense he was bluffing. If he wanted to hurt us he would have done it when he held Jessica and I at gone point. You’re just overreacting.’’

Jonathan hits Justin on the face.

‘’ I’m overreacting, is this what you are going to say to me Justin.’’ Said Jonathan

‘’ honey please, be gentle with him.’’ said Susan

‘’ let him hit me, since that is what he knows how to do best.’’ said Justin

‘’ Justin!! Stop it. ’’ Said Jessica

‘’You see this boy, why can’t you be more like your sister, why can’t you exhibit her characteristics, but no you choose to go by your own disgusting ways’’ said Jonathan

‘’ wow, This is what I’ve been saying, nobody wants to be on my side, everybody wants to love and support Jessica, that is all you all know, Jessica is the best, exhibit what she has, because you are a disgrace to the family.’’ said Justin

‘’ Justin, dad just wants you to listen to him and do what is right, he’s doing what’s best for you.’’ Said Jessica

‘’ Or you mean he wants to use me. Dad wants me to be his slave, he wants to take charge of my life. Dad has always shown you more love, but he has never cared about me. Because you are his favorite I was his embarrassment, he has never for once let me speak, he always shuns me down before anything.’’ Said Justin

‘’ Justin what is your problem, why are you bringing so much pain to this family, Susan have I not done enough for him.’’ asked Jonathan

‘’ you will never understand me, sometimes it feels like You’re not my father because you have never made me feel like a son.’’ Said Justin

He leaves the scene, and they all stand there in thoughts.

Present day

The cops arrived and the siren alerted that something had happened at the Jefferson’s home. Susan who was wrecked down to stupor sits on the floor while her older sister consoles her.

‘’ Susan, you have to take it easy please’’ said Linda

‘’ Linda let me be, please let me cry my heart out, my husband, my love the bone of my bone has been killed mercilessly. Please let me dwell in this agony.’’ Said Susan

‘’ Susan you have to be strong my dear, Jonathan wouldn’t be happy to see you in this state, you have to be strong for your kids. They need you more than ever now.’’ Said Linda

‘’ Linda, Jonathan was not just my husband, he was my savior in so many ways, he has always been there for me and my children, I’m just so sad he had to leave us this early, He didn’t deserve this Linda( her tears intensifies) he didn’t deserve it at all.’’ Said Susan

Linda Hugs her tightly and sheds tears.

At Jessica’s room

‘’ Jess, I’m so sorry for your loss, I never imagined such a devastating thing could happen.’’ Said Anna

‘’ this is so unbelievable, I can’t imagine my dad is no more, why would someone do this?? My dad was such a good man who has always stood by my side and he has always believed in me ‘’ said Jessica

Flashback

‘’ no matter what, I will always be here for you. You, Emily and your brother are my biggest accomplishments. Don’t give up on your dreams, keep pushing and I will be by your side always my dear’’ said Jonathan

‘’ thank you dad, I love you so much.’’ said Jessica

‘’ l love you too my dearest.’’ said Jonathan

Present moment

‘’ it is so hurtful I know, but you have to take care of yourself.’’

‘’ I just want my dad, I just need my hero anna. ’’ said Jessica

‘’ I know you miss him so much, but there is no amount of tears or longing to bring him back. You just have to be strong for yourself, for Emily, your mom and Justin.’’ said Anna

She leans on to her and cries while anna comforts her. Meanwhile Justin sits on his bed while his friends comes inside his room.

‘’ hey Justin, we just wanted to check on you.’’ said Zachary

‘’ I just need to be alone.’’ said Justin

‘’ I know how much it must hurt you, I wish we could… said Joshua

‘’I said I want to be alone, you guys should go please. Said Justin

‘’fine, if that’s what you want, we’ll leave. Said Zachary

Zachery and Joshua steps out of Justin’s room while Justin sulks.

Flashback

‘’ Dad!!! I just want to apologize for what I did last night, you were right! I acted so stupidly. I should have just listened to you, I’m really sorry dad.’’ Said Justin

‘’ I’m glad you’ve realized your mistake, and I’m sorry I’ve not been the dad you solely want. But I assure you, I will do better henceforth. I’m so proud to call you my son. ‘’ said Jonathan

‘’ thank you dad.’’ Said Justin

Present moment

He sulks more and more

Flashback

‘’ Justin I have a surprise for you. ‘’ said Jonathan

‘’ what’s that.’’ asked Justin

He brings out a P.S 5 video game

‘’ omg!! Dad I can’t believe you bought me a PS 5. I’ve been yearning so much for this, thanks man. Oops!! Sorry I thought of you as my friends.’’ Said Justin

‘’ it’s cool as far as you’re happy, I don’t care what you call me, we’re niggas on the contrary.’’ Said Jonathan

‘’ yeah I guess.’’ said Jonathan

They both laughed hard

Present moment

(In his thought)

‘’ I can’t believe you’re not with me dad, I can’t believe any of this is even real, I can’t believe I won’t be able to hear your voice one more time

Dad!! Please come back.’’ Said Justin

After everything, those who came visiting started leaving but the police were still there trying to navigate the crime.

‘’ mrs Jefferson, my deepest condolences to you and your family, we’re so sorry for your loss.’’ Said detective

‘’ thank you officer, I am grateful.’’ Said Susan

‘’ we promise to get to the bottom of the issue, but we need you to come with us to the station’’ asked detective

Justin and Jessica attacked

‘’ why does she have to follow you to the station, she didn’t do anything to our father.’’

Said Justin

‘’ yes, she was only a witness after my dad was already dead’’ said Jessica’’

‘’ it’s okay kids, they just want to take me to the station so I can give my statement’’Said Susan

‘’ yes, not to worry kids, we’re not going to harm your mom, we just want her to give her statement.

‘’ Then, we’re coming with you mom’.’ said Justin

‘’ kids, there’s no need to worry, I will be back soon’’

‘’That was what dad said before he left us’’ said Jessica

‘’ at least let one of us come with you, please.’’ said Justin’’

‘’ fine, Jessica come with me’’ said Susan

‘’ okay mom.’’ said Jessica

‘’ Justin, look after your baby sister. Okay please take care’’ said Jessica

‘’ I will mom, you take care too.’’ said Justin

The police, Susan and Jessica all matched to the police station while Justin, Emily and some other police men remained at the Jefferson’s home.

‘’ Emily go to your room.’’ said Justin

‘’ Okay’’ said Emily

Emily heads to her room, as Justin was about seating, he spots a paper on top of the stool close the couch. he picks it up and opens the paper.

On the paper

‘’ the heir is gone, the game has just began.’’
